Kwento 1: Carousel
Thanks, Mics!

January 2.
First working day of the year. malamig ang paligid at puno ng mga taong naghihikab, tinatamad pumasok at tinitgnan ang phone calendar kung kelan and next long weekend vacation- may holiday blues pa.
Mico was one of them. Half-asleep. New Year, eh—kaya happy-happy lang.
Dragging his feet papunta sa EDSA Carousel Bus Stop sa Quezon Ave, ramdam niya na mabigat yung araw—long commute to Makati, endless emails, balik sa routine na parang walang katapusan.
Then he saw her- si Ana. Wearing denim jacket, tote bag, buhok medyo basa pa from morning shower. Nakatayo, scrolling her phone, earphones on.
------------
Dumating yung bus—crowded as usual. Siksikan pero Mico made way and managed to squeeze in, at sakto, si Ana napadikit sa tabi niya.
“Excuse me, may piso ka? Naubusan kasi ako ng barya,” she asked, with a polite smile.
Wala siyang Beep card.
That one simple line jolted Mico awake more than his morning coffee. He dug into his bag, pulled out some coins, and handed them to her.
“Here, it’s okay,” he said. “First time commuting?”
Ana nodded, medyo embarrassed. “Yeah… medyo siksikan pala, noh?”
“Don’t worry,” Mico chuckled. “You’ll get used to it… eventually. I’m Mico, by the way.”
“Ana,” she replied, her smile growing. “Nice to meet you.”
At just like that, amidst the jostle of passengers and the hum of the city, isang simpleng conversation ang nagsimula.
------------
The bus lurched forward, at Ana instinctively held onto the rail, trying not to stumble. “So… saan ka pupunta?” Mico asked.
Ana glanced around, then back at him. “Work… actually, first day ko pa lang. Medyo nervous pa.”
Mico smiled, genuinely interested. “Ahh, gets ko na. Kaya ganito ka ka-awkward sa commute. Huwag ka mag-worry, makakasanayan mo rin. Saan ka ba?”
“Sa may Parkway Corporate Centre sa Alabang,” she said.
“PCC, huh? Actually, may cousin ako dun nagta-trabaho,” Mico said, surprised. “Ang liit ng mundo, ha.”
Ana laughed softly, tension easing off her shoulders.

The Kilig Build-Up
Day after day, nagiging routine na: 8:00 AM, Quezon Ave stop, dalawang commuters side by side.
Mico offering to hold Ana’s tote habang hawak niya yung coffee. Ana accepted, smiling.
Isang umagang maulan, traffic was brutal. Ana leaned closer, offering one side of her earphones. “Listen,” she said, playing “Multo” by Cup of Joe.
Mico chuckled. “Hugot agad?”
Ana smiled. “Ramdam na ramdam yung hugot, di ba?”

Boom. Fireworks sa dibdib ni Mico.
For him, perfect start of the year.
Weeks went by, and every morning felt like a small rehearsal for something bigger.
8:00 AM, Quezon Ave stop—parang clockwork.
Mico and Ana, side by side, waiting for the bus.
For Mico, those weeks weren’t just commutes anymore.
Every smile felt like a promise.
Every bus ride, a chapter.
And in the back of his mind, one thought kept growing, day after day: Valentine’s Day.
The Valentine’s Binondo Fantasy
Valentine’s Day was coming—sakto pa, Chinese New Year din.
Mico had a plan: I’ll ask her out. Binondo Chinatown. Food trip. Tikoy, dumplings, hopia. Perfect date. Boom!
Para kay Mico, perfect.
Ana’s laughter echoing against festive drums.
Her hand brushing his habang naglalakad sila sa ilalim ng lanterns.
Her smile, mas maliwanag pa kaysa fireworks sa langit.
He even bragged to his friends: “Pare, si Ana. She’s different.

Pero this time, she wasn’t waiting for him. Beside her was another girl—laughing, hawak pa ang tote bag na parang kanya. Slightly chinitang blondee.
Mico thought, Probably a co-worker.
The other girl leaned in, halos dikit na yung buhok nila, and whispered something that made Ana smile—yung tipong ngiti na bihira makita sa kanya.
Ana laughed softly, tilting her head closer, parang instinct lang. Then she reached for her hand, squeezing it lightly—parang automatic na gesture, walang pag‑aalinlangan.
She waved, “Hi, Mico!” gesturing him to come nearer.
“He’s the guy I’ve been telling you about,” Ana said with a smile. “He made my daily commute fun and less awkward. Si Mico.”
Then, turning slightly, she gestured to the girl beside her.
“This is Gwen.” Ana lightly touched Gwen’s arm before holding her hand again.
-------------------
Boom! Sumabog ang Binondo Valentine’s dream niya.
Turns out, Ana likes too much what he likes… girls too!
And just like how he described Ana sa tropa niya, different nga naman pala talaga siya.
Mico stood frozen, half‑smile plastered on his face, pero sa loob niya, daig pa niya ang bobang lumulutang sa milk tea na gugustuhin na lang mahigop ng straw and drown.
Talk about plot twist.
Akala niya, siya ang bida.
Cameo lang pala na parang bobang palutang-lutang.

Hugot Lesson
Hindi lahat ng kasabay mo sa biyahe,
kasabay mo hanggang dulo.
Minsan, seatmate lang talaga.
At ang milk tea?
Masarap sa simula. Kilig sa gitna.
Pero kapag nasobrahan, Diabetes na yan.
