Okay, might as well do it now, while memory is fresh.
The pubcon earlier was to discuss the personae of the v**e industry that the FDA insists require regulation. This includes (but is not limited to): juice makers, hardware manufacturers, and shop owners. The FDA spokespeople laid forth what the regulation will entail, namely:
For juicers: more stringent requirements, such as permits and other related paperwork, MSDS, bottling and labeling requirements (indicating ingredients, manufacturing and expiration dates, ni****ne level, manufacturing location, childproofing, etc). The FDA also wishes to heavily restrict FLAVOR, claiming that it appeals to children and may serve as a gateway vice for non-smokers to get into smoking the real thing. A pediatrician who was at the event cited examples about addiction to ni****ne (more on that later), and a doctor from a to***co harm reduction group also pointed out several ALLEGED flaws in the methodology provided by the UK ministry of health and Royal College Of Science research.
For modders: registration of each PRODUCT (of course, at cost to the modder), inclusion of a “diagram”, as well as clear enduser manuals. Application for a permit to manufacture must also contain the exact components used in making the device. Their rationale was that some metals react dangerously when exposed to liquid.
The FDA is also pushing for 25 to be the legal age to purchase and use v**e devices. Their rationale is that “the prefrontal cortex of the brain, which controls higher brain functions such as reason and mood, develops to maturity at age 25”. The FDA goes on to posit that “exposure to ni****ne in any form retards the development of the prefrontal cortex”. This reason is unsound at best. Please bear in mind that the age of criminal liability is soon to be 9. Yes, you read that right. A KID WHO IS NINE CAN GO TO JAIL FOR COMMITTING A CRIME. At 18, you’re old enough to buy beer, f**k someone at a motel, vote, get married, drive, and buy ci******es. Guess those tasks don’t require a “fully matured prefrontal cortex”, then. 🙄
Another alarming aspect of the pubcon was the doctor claiming that “the research of the Royal College Of Science was made under flawed methodology, admitted by the authors themselves”. The good doctor goes on to assert, “the laws about va**ng in the UK were made based on assumption and conjecture”. Please note that the UK has passed laws legalizing the use of PVs in their country. No concrete evidence was provided to support the PH FDA’s claim.
It was also pointed out that the DOST will be spearheading research into the possible harmful effects of va**ng on users and second-hand inhalers. It was not explicitly stated, but heavily implied, that it will be done PRIOR to executing the AO, and using their own in-house doctors. Sampling methods as well as research methodology were also not disclosed earlier.
At the end of the day, we are all in this as a community. We strongly urge everyone to help out as best we can. We must learn to strategize and work with what we have. The logic behind their fallacious claim is that ni****ne is addictive and equally (if not moreso) harmful than other drugs. The panel also asserts that the UK studies are inadmissible, due to lack of peer-reviewed research.
It is simply odd to see a group like this go after va**ng so doggedly, yet conveniently ignore the issue of children and minors having almost immediate access to alcohol and ci******es.
Please do spread awareness. It’s an uphill battle from here on out.
