Glober C. Calambro is a distinguished Filipino trumpet artist and educator, currently serving as Assistant Principal Trumpet of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO), where he has been a member since 2007. His extensive performing career encompasses orchestral, wind ensemble, and musical theater repertoire, with international engagements at Carnegie Hall in New York and the Asia in Resonance Gala Concert in Tokyo, as well as tours and festivals across the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, China, and Thailand. He has also served as Principal Trumpet of the Philbanda Wind Ensemble, Manila Symphony Orchestra, and University of the Philippines Symphonic Band, and has performed with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. His musical theater credits include major Manila productions of Wicked, Les Misérables, Chicago, Singin’ in the Rain, and The Sound of Music. A recipient of a 2004 NAMCYA prize, Calambro holds a Bachelor of Music from St. Paul University Manila and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Chamber Music. He likewise serves on the faculty of UST, St. Scholastica’s College, and Centro Escolar University, while contributing to music education and youth development through the Orchestra of the Filipino Youth and PPO outreach programs.
Melvin Miranda is a distinguished Filipino trumpet player and member of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) and Banda 11 of Cabiao, Nueva Ecija. A graduate of the University of the Philippines College of Music, where he pursued trumpet studies under Prof. Fredeline Parin, former Principal Trumpet of the PPO, he has established a versatile career encompassing orchestral, chamber, symphonic band, and musical theater repertoire. His professional engagements include performances with the Pinoy Brass Quintet, UP Chamber Orchestra, UP Junior Brass Quintet, and Manila Youth Symphony Orchestra, as well as principal positions with the Cultural and Tourism Affairs Office Quezon City Symphonic Band and the Manila Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed in productions of West Side Story and The Sound of Music and served as a guest musician at a music camp in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Jay-Ar Mesa is a Filipino French horn player and educator whose career encompasses orchestral performance, chamber music, and music education. A member of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) since 2008, he has performed with various local and international orchestras and has appeared in major musical productions, including Miss Saigon, The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, and Wicked. He began studying the French horn at age 13 under Victor Bolante and later pursued a Certificate in Music at the University of the Philippines–Diliman under the late Prof. Leopoldo Lopez. During his years at UP, he performed with the UP Symphonic Band and served as Principal Horn of the UP Symphony Orchestra. He was also a Philippine delegate to the Southeast Asian Youth Orchestra and Wind Ensemble (SAYOWE), a member of the Asian Youth Orchestra, and performed with the Myanmar Symphony Orchestra. In 2018, he earned his Bachelor of Music in French Horn from St. Paul University Manila, where he is currently completing his Master in Music in Orchestral Conducting. As an educator, Mesa serves on the faculties of the University of Santo Tomas and St. Scholastica’s College Manila, and volunteers as a mentor with Ang Misyon, Inc., supporting young musicians from underserved communities. He is affiliated with the Philippine Horn Players Society, PPO Brass Quintet, and Clarion Music Ensemble, and was a recipient of the Asian Youth Orchestra Scholarship in 2012 and the Most Outstanding Musician Award from the Southeast Asian Youth Wind Ensemble. Through performance and teaching, Mesa continues to contribute to the development of brass performance and classical music in the Philippines.
Ricson Poonin is a distinguished Filipino trombonist and educator who currently serves as Principal Trombone of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra. He began playing the trombone at the age of nine in San Pablo City, Laguna, and earned his Bachelor of Music in Trombone Performance from the University of Santo Tomas in 2012, where he was a full scholar and won first prize in the UST Solo Competition. In 2009, he received First Prize in NAMCYA Solo Category C and subsequently performed with the Southeast Asian Youth Orchestra and Wind Ensemble and the Asian Youth Orchestra. He pursued graduate studies at the Johns Hopkins Peabody Conservatory, earning a Master of Music in 2016 and a Graduate Performance Diploma in 2017. During his time at Peabody, he performed with various ensembles, appeared as a featured soloist with the Peabody Wind Ensemble, and received the James Winship Lewis Memorial Prize Performance Award. He has also participated in masterclasses with renowned trombonists including Joseph Alessi, Toby Oft, Doug Yeo, and Ron Barron, as well as performing at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York. Since returning to the Philippines in 2017, Poonin has maintained an active career as an orchestral musician, soloist, and educator, representing the Philippines in international festivals and productions, including the Mid Europe Festival in Austria and the international touring production of Miss Saigon. He is also the founder of the Thomasian Trombone Choir, which participated in the Thailand International Trombone Festival in 2024.
Benedicto I. dela Peret, Jr., popularly known as Jun, began playing the tuba at age 13 in his hometown of Cabiao, Nueva Ecija. He studied at the University of the Philippines College of Music, where he earned a Certificate of Music, Diploma in Creative and Performing Musical Arts, and Bachelor of Music major in Tuba, and later completed a Master of Music major in Music Performance at Philippine Women’s University. An active band and orchestral musician, he began his professional performing career with the Philippine Youth Orchestra and Manila Youth Symphony Orchestra and has since performed with the UP Chamber Orchestra, Crosswave Symphony Orchestra Project, Bamboo Organ Festival Orchestra, and as a substitute tubist of the San Miguel Philharmonic Orchestra. His diverse performance experience includes the ASEAN Youth Music Workshop in Bangkok in 1996 and the Manila production of Miss Saigon in 2000, where he performed on bass trombone and tuba. In 2001, he toured major European cities with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO), followed by performances at Asia Orchestra Week in Tokyo in 2002 and with the ASEAN-Japan Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo in 2003. His international engagements with the PPO have taken him to major venues and events across Asia, Europe, and North America, including performances in Bangkok, Nagoya, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, and the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2016, as well as the PPO’s return to Asia Orchestra Week in Kuji and Tokyo in 2018 and its tour of major cities in the United Kingdom and Scotland in 2025. He has also performed with the Philbanda Wind Orchestra at the Asia-Pacific Band Directors’ Association Conference in Singapore in 2012 and with the Bulacan Wind Orchestra at the Tao Yuan International Band Festival in Taiwan in 2014. As a chamber musician, he is a founding member of the UP Junior Brass Quintet, UP Oblation Brass Quintet, Manila Tuba Euphonium Quartet, and The Pinoy Brass, and founded the UP Brass Ensemble, UP Tuba Euphonium Ensemble, BrasSession, and Euphonic Swingers, where he performs on trombone and bass guitar. A member of the International Tuba Euphonium Association, Jun is also an active clinician for bands and brass ensembles and serves as a juror in various music competitions. He is a former faculty member of the CEU Conservatory of Music and Philippine Women’s University and currently serves as a faculty member of the University of the Philippines College of Music, Principal Tubist of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, and member of the PPO Brass Quintet.
