If you feel a bit lost ✍🏼
When I was about five, I remember my mom asking what I wanted to learn. She gave me a choice between karate, kumon, or ballet, but as a shy, introverted kid who didn’t speak much, I wanted none.
I grew up in an environment where creativity was woven into the very fabric of our home. My father was a photographer with an eye for detail. My grandmother was a teacher, excelling in different art styles. And then there was my sister, a creative spirit whose projects I admired with wide-eyed wonder. It was in these moments, watching them, that I realized what I wanted to become. I wanted to be an artist, just like them.
From kindergarten to high school, I held on to this passion. I drew, painted, took photos, even dabbled in makeup. I won contests, made makeup videos, used faces of different ages as my canvas, taught others how to express themselves through art, and even earned money from it! My paintings found homes in countries I had never been to, and I even wrote in my SHS yearbook, “I want to be a Visual Artist” and I believed I could.
But when college came, things took a different turn. I wasn’t good at academics, and the pressure of paying for tuition weighed heavy on me. I chose an affordable course and school. I became a scholar, and while I did well, something inside me felt off. It wasn’t the path I wanted. The more I tried to push through, the more I realized it wasn’t for me. So, I dropped out. Time passed by as I sat in my room all alone and watched the world circulate without me. My world stopped as everyone around me was evolving.
But sometimes, miracles come when you least expect them. I began reworking my college applications, but this time, on MY path. It was as if I was playing a bet of toss a coin with life itself. I chose the course I wanted, and while I got accepted to UP, I chose the school where I felt I knew I could be more of myself. I started creating again, and even got to explore new ways to express myself. Life doesn’t always go the way as planned, but it’s never too late! Things aren’t always easy—there were struggles, doubts, and moments of frustration—but I was evolving. I am STILL EVOLVING.
