$12.9 million is the new standard when it comes to sports cards, and the world has Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan to thank.

The 1-of-1 card signed by both legends included the actual NBA logo patches taken from each player’s game-worn jerseys.

The 2008 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection card appropriately sold on Kobe Day, August 24 - or 8/24 - the 2 numbers worn by the Mamba during his NBA career.

The day before, bidding had already topped the all-time record for a basketball card, set by Steph Curry’s 2009 Panini at $5.9 million.

But overnight, the bidding more than doubled, eventually bought by “Shark Tank” star Kevin O’Leary and 2 of his partners.

The previous record for any sports card was $12.6 million for a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle rookie in 2022.

Is $12.9 million a good deal, or did O’Leary overpay?

In December 2021, a 2018 Panini National Treasures Rookie Patch Autograph Luka Dončić PSA10/10 piece sold for $780,000 via auction with PWCC Marketplace. Fast forward to this weekend, another piece sold for $222,650 via auction (30 bids) with Goldin Auctions on December 28th — that's a 71.4% (-$557,350) difference from the sale three years ago.

“DAD, IT’S A 1/1!!!!” 🤯❤️🥹

Andy and his son Andrew are from Fresno, CA, where Andy works as a dairy farmer.

Andrew has recently been trading cards with his friends at school, so when Andy heard about the Steph/LeBron/KD card on the radio, he decided to buy a 5-pack.

When they received their order and noticed an extra foil-wrapped pack, they didn’t know what it was right away. The dad said “we assumed the next pack was another base set.”

But when Andrew opened the pack, he started screaming “Dad it’s a 1/1!!!” 🥹❤️

To top it off, this was the FIRST numbered card Andrew has EVER pulled.

What an incredible hobby moment! Congrats to Andy and his son on the epic pull!!! 🎉
