Indulge me on my simple birthday poem for today:
I Count the Memories Not the Years
I count the memories not the years
Those moments we hold on to
When times get rough and sad
These little joys I wish will never fade
Those days we refuse to let go
I count the memories not the years
Every sunrise in every morning
The sunset that sets the night
Those warm hugs and sweet kisses
The sand upon my feet as the sun touches
My cheeks and the wind blows through my hair
As I swirl, swirl around to enjoy these moments
I count the memories not the years
Not those who despised but those who loved me
Not those who had wronged me but those who cherished me
Not those who put me down but those who lifted me up
Not those who chose to forget but the ones who remembered
I count the memories not the years
These lines, these wrinkles, these scars
My face could no longer hide
The flaws which show how much I have endured through the years
The smiles and the laughter
The wisdom I have gained
The lessons I have learned
I count the memories not the years
Ask me how young and not how old I am
Learn from my experiences and use them on your own
Understand that life could only be as good as you make it
Live each day with a purpose
Make each second count
I count the memories not the years
I choose to look forward instead of looking back
Remember the happy memories than the past that hurt me
Think of what lies ahead rather than what breaks my heart
Appreciate those who care that those who don’t
Embrace the light than stay in darkness
I count the memories not the years
Each day is a chance to start anew
Be grateful for the gift of life to celebrate
Look upon God for what He has in store
And pray for more years to make wonderful memories
