Xiaomi Mi Band 3 to Arrive in 2018 with Touchscreen Display, Gestures Support

In the previous week, Huang Wang, the CEO of Huami Technologies had confirmed through a press meet that the company will be announcing the highly anticipated Xiaomi Mi Band 3 fitness tracker. Today, a leaked photo showing different screenshots of the Mi Band 3 fitness band has appeared. The leaked image reveals that Mi Band 3 will feature a touchscreen display and will carry support for some gestures.

Xiaomi Mi Band 3 will allow users to easily switch among notifications and other features by sliding up and down. Tapping on the screen will allow users to switch between different items through infinite loop.

Tapping the band’s capacitive key will allow users it use it as Back function to access the last page. Long pressing on the same key to confirm certain features like start searching for a device to pair or stop using the stopwatch and so on. Swiping up on the screen will let the users to unlock the Mi Band 3.

The source has claimed that the Mi Band 3 will be a significantly improved device than the Mi Band 2. This suggests that the device may house a colored display. Also, around a month ago, the Mi Band 3 had received Bluetooth SIG certification. It revealed that the device will carry support for Bluetooth 4.2. As of this writing, there is no information on the other specs of the Mi Band 3.

The Mi Band 2 was released in June last year as a successor for older Mi Band 1S and Mi Band fitness trackers. Hence, the Mi Band 3 is speculated to debut in the current quarter of 2018.

For the uninitiated, Huami Technologies is the company that manufactures AmazFit brand of fitness trackers and smartwatches and it also the maker of Xiaomi’s Mi Band fitness trackers.

Microsoft ends all support for Windows Phone 8.1

Windows 10 Mobile lives on, however

It's time to pour one out for Windows Phone 8.1, as Microsoft officially ended support for the mobile platform today.

Forecast previously on an official page, Windows Phone 8.1 — and by extension, the Windows Phone platform as many know it — will no longer receive any further upgrades, updates or security check-ups from Microsoft.

While this is an end to the era of Microsoft attempting to wrest a piece of the mobile pie away from iOS and Android, the PC purveyor's work in the sphere isn't quite finished.

Windows 10 Mobile, the mobile extension of Microsoft's desktop OS and successor to Windows Phone 8.1, is still kicking. Microsoft is even rumored to have new Windows 10 Mobile handsets in the works.

As to where Microsoft could take its mobile initiative next, CEO Satya Nadella teased earlier this year that the company is still interested in making smartphones, though they may not look like the ones we're used to.

While it's speculation, we're crossing our fingers that Microsoft isn't done with mobile just yet, and that Nadella is teasing something big — possibly the rumored Surface Phone — as the technology behemoth's next project.

In the meantime, here's to Windows Phone 8.1 — it, um... definitely tried.

Nokia 8 Tipped to Be HMD Global’s First Flagship, Not Nokia 9

While Nokia 9 has been heavily tipped to be the first true flagship from HMD Global this year, new leaks now point to the Nokia 8 being the first flagship-level device. Fresh information from China suggests that the Nokia 8 will be launched with an iris scanner and sport a bezel-less display as well.

Chinese site CNMO has leaked marketing material and images of the Nokia 8 showing off design details. The Nokia 8 is seen sporting a bezel-less design, apart from a USB Type-C port and dual speakers at the bottom edge of the smartphone. Another image also shows a unique thin vertical camera strip at the back of the smartphone on the left side, something that does not fall in line with previous rumours seen about the Nokia 8.

The smartphone is also tipped to sport an iris scanner, again, something that was tipped to arrive on the Nokia 9. All of this seems to suggest that the Nokia 8 will be the true flagship that will be unveiled this year, and not Nokia 9.

Whatever the phone is called, the Nokia flagship device is expected to be launched as soon as this month. It is expected to be IP68 water resistant, support dual-SIM slots, and a fingerprint scanner as well. The smartphone is expected to feature a 5.3-inch QHD display, will be powered by the Snapdragon 835 SoC paired with 4GB or 6GB of RAM (some rumours even point to an 8GB RAM variant), and support 64GB of inbuilt storage with microSD card slot for expansion.

The smartphone will sport a 13-megapixel dual camera setup at the back and a 13-megapixel front camera as well. The dimensions are expected to be at 151.55 x 73.7mm. The Nokia 8 or Nokia 9 is expected to be priced at EUR 749, while the Pakistan price is tipped to be at Rs. 90,649 (exclusive of taxes).
