Confession: I’m 26, just turned 26, and honestly, the marriage pressure has started getting to me. I’ve completed my MPhil and I’m working as a lecturer, so Alhamdulillah I have a lot to be grateful for, but somehow society makes you feel like marriage is the only thing that matters after a certain age.
I’m 26(F), just turned 26, and honestly, the marriage pressure has started getting to me. I’ve completed my MPhil and I’m working as a lecturer, so Alhamdulillah I have a lot to be grateful for, but somehow society makes you feel like marriage is the only thing that matters after a certain age.
I wasn’t ready for marriage before. I wanted to focus on myself and my career, and at that time I genuinely didn’t feel prepared. But now I’ve changed my mindset and I feel ready to settle down. The problem is, now that I’m ready, nothing seems to work out. Proposals come, but somehow baat aagay nahi barhti. Kuch na kuch masla ho jata hai. Sometimes they reject, sometimes my parents reject for reasons I don’t always understand.
Honestly, it has become mentally exhausting. I keep wondering what Allah has written for me and whether I’ll ever find the right person. I do believe in Allah’s timing, but sometimes the constant pressure and seeing everyone around me move on makes me anxious about my own future.
I just wish things would become a little easier. I don’t want to marry just because of society’s pressure—I want the right person and a peaceful life. But sometimes I can’t help but wonder… when will it be my turn?
