Front Cable Raises — Better Front Delt Tension 💪
If you want to build stronger, more developed shoulders, Front Cable Raises can be a great isolation exercise for the anterior deltoid (front delt).
One big advantage of using a cable is consistent resistance throughout the movement, compared with some free-weight variations where the resistance can change significantly through the range of motion.
How to perform it properly:
• Stand facing away from the cable machine and grab the handle behind you.
• Keep your chest controlled and core tight.
• Start with your arm slightly behind your body.
• Raise the handle forward in a controlled motion.
• Bring your arm approximately to shoulder height.
• Focus on moving through the shoulder rather than turning the exercise into a full-body movement.
• Slowly lower the weight and maintain tension instead of letting the cable pull your arm down.
Target Muscle:
🎯 Primary: Anterior Deltoid
💪 Secondary: Medial Deltoid and upper chest may contribute depending on your technique and range of motion.
Common Mistakes ❌
❌ Using too much weight
❌ Swinging the body
❌ Shrugging the shoulders
❌ Losing control during the eccentric
❌ Turning the movement into a front-to-back swing
❌ Going excessively heavy just to move the stack
Remember: an isolation exercise doesn’t need a huge weight to be effective.
Choose a load that allows you to control both the lifting and lowering phases while keeping the target muscle under tension.
If your goal is bigger, stronger and more developed shoulders, exercise selection matters — but so do technique, progressive overload, training volume and recovery.
