Our translucent thin goat hides are mainly used for smaller hand drums where the hide needs to respond quickly and produce a clear, lively tone.

There’s something special about instruments that are made for bringing people together.
The Tabal Behri is a traditional drum found in parts of the Middle East, often played during large community gatherings, celebrations and weddings. It has a strong, deep character and is built to be heard in a crowd.
Our standard Tabal Behri is 18" × 12", made from solid Sheesham wood, with brass handles and thick natural cow hides fitted on both ends.
It is especially familiar in markets such as Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman and Saudi Arabia, where traditional percussion remains part of cultural celebrations.

Rawhide lacing, also called drum lacing, leather strap or drum binding lace, is one of those materials that may look simple but makes a big difference when building a good shamanic drum.
At Qayffz, we cut our drum lacing from natural buffalo hide, with a thickness of around 1.5–2 mm. The strips are cut uniformly, with a minimum width of 1 cm, and we can adjust the width or length according to your requirements.
For drum makers and workshops, we keep bundles available in 50 ft, 100 ft, 150 ft and 200 ft lengths. Need a different length? Just let us know.
We can also stain the lacing in different colours on request.
One thing that makes shipping easier: if you're already ordering wooden drum hoops from us, we can pack the rawhide lacing inside the hoops. This helps you avoid paying separate shipping space for the lacing.
A small material, but an essential one for shamanic drums, frame drums and other drum-building projects.

This video is from last winter, and it’s one of those orders we still remember.
We received a customized order for 15 shamanic drums, all made with 100% natural water buffalo hides with the hair left on.
Normally, we keep buffalo hides without hair ready in stock. But for this order, every drum had to have the natural hair-on finish, so we had to process fresh hides in our workshop.
The problem? We had a very tight shipping deadline — and that particular week there was almost no sun, along with a lot of humidity. Fresh hides normally need proper drying conditions, so we had to find another way.
For most of the day, we created a warm drying environment using heat from burning waste wood and carefully dried the hides until they were ready.
A few hours later, the hides were prepared. The following day, our drum-making team got to work, finished the 15 drums and shipped the order on the agreed date.
Sometimes making drums is not just about having the materials in stock. It’s about finding a way to get the job done when the conditions are not on your side.

Sometimes a 4" tambourine takes more work than a much bigger drum.
Around two years ago, we received an order for a 4-inch tambourine, the smallest tambourine we had ever been asked to make.
The hides were ready. The 1" steel cymbals were ready. But the wooden frame became the problem.
We tried bending different types of wood to close at such a small diameter. One after another, the pieces either broke or came out of shape. We tried different approaches, but nothing gave us the result we needed.
Eventually, we got some advice that changed the approach completely. Instead of steam-bending the wood, we sourced bamboo with approximately a 4" diameter, cut it into smaller pieces and carefully sanded it to make the frame.
And that is how the little 4" tambourine in this video finally came to life.
The point of sharing this isn't really about the tambourine itself. It's about what happens behind the scenes when a customer asks for something unusual.
At Qayffz Percussion, we don't always have the answer on day one. Sometimes we have to experiment, try different materials, fail, rethink the process and try again.
But if a customer has a specific requirement, we put our experience, production team and resources behind finding a way to make it happen.
That's part of what custom manufacturing is about.
