From the pages of the past: "COVID SPINE OMNIS" 📚🦠

During the 2020–2021 lockdown era, something unexpected happened in the world of Marvel Comics Omnibus collecting. Because of global printing slowdowns, shipping chaos, and changes in printing facilities, we ended up with what collectors now call “COVID Spine Omnis.”

So what made them different?

🔎 Variations collectors noticed:
• Rounded vs. flat spines
• Different binding tightness
• Slightly thinner paper in some batches
• Color differences on the spine
• Overall build quality inconsistencies

It even led to some truly surreal collector moments — buyers messaging sellers with questions like:
👉 “Is the spine rounded or flat?”
👉 “Can you send a side photo of the binding?”

One of the most discussed examples was SPIDER-MAN OMNIBUS BY JMS VOL.2 in 3 covers, which reportedly had multiple variants, with some copies known for having a flat spine instead of the traditional rounded one.

Other titles from that era often mentioned in the “COVID spine” conversation include:

• BLACK WIDOW OMNIBUS
• MORBIUS OMNIBUS
• WOLVERINE OMNIBUS VOL.1
• SHE HULK BY BYRNE OMNIBUS

For some collectors, these were frustrating quality-control years. For others, they became a weirdly fascinating chapter in omnibus history - a time when even the curve of a spine became a serious buying factor.

Moon Knight By Huston, Benson & Hurwitz Omnibus HC is without a doubt my favorite omnibus when it comes to Moon Knight stories 🌙🔥. Out of all the different runs and interpretations of Marc Spector, this one hits the hardest and stays with me the longest. It is dark, uncompromising and unapologetically brutal. This is Moon Knight stripped down to pain, madness and violence.

The tone of this run is extremely gritty. The violence is graphic and sometimes shocking, but it never feels empty. It serves the character and shows just how broken and obsessive Marc can be. This version of Moon Knight is not a clean cut hero. He is unstable, ruthless and often terrifying. That psychological edge is what makes the story so compelling. It feels raw and intense from beginning to end.

The artwork by David Finch is absolutely stunning 🎨💥. His style fits the darkness of the story perfectly. The action scenes are dynamic and cinematic, every punch feels heavy, every shadow adds atmosphere. Finch’s Moon Knight looks intimidating and almost supernatural at times. The visuals elevate the brutality and make the entire omnibus feel epic and grounded at the same time.

The writing across the run builds a heavy atmosphere and dives deep into Marc’s fractured mind. There is real emotional weight here, real consequences and a sense that things can spiral out of control at any moment. That tension keeps the pages turning fast. It is a long omnibus, but the pacing and intensity make it incredibly engaging.

If you are looking for a brutal, mature and unforgettable Moon Knight experience, this is the omnibus to get. For me it is the definitive modern take on the character and still the one I return to the most.
