The history of Persian carpets
It is not known exactly when the first Persian carpets appeared. The oldest preserved oriental carpet "Pazirik" was created in the V century BC. The textile technique used in this carpet indicates a rich experience of carpet weaving.
The palace of Cyrus the Great in Pasargad was decorated with magnificent carpets, and Alexander the Great was impressed by the splendor of the carpets covering the grave of Cyrus the Great. The legendary "Spring" carpet of Khosrow I with the image of the English garden was woven during this period for the main hall of the luxurious Sassanid palace in Ctesiphon (now Iraq) in honor of the victory of the Persians over the Romans and the conquest of the Arabian Peninsula. The "Spring carpet" was the most expensive carpet in history — the carpet was gigantic in size (122 meters long, 30 meters wide) and weighed several tons. In the middle of the XII century, the Arabs attacked Persia and cut the carpet, dividing it among themselves, and took it away in parts as trophies.
