At first glance, the letters read as PR — Puerto Rico, immediately and unmistakably. But the mark carries another history. The graphic is taken from the initials PRB, used by the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, a secret society of artists and writers founded in 1848 to challenge the conventions of academic art. The initials appeared almost like a coded signature in early Pre-Raphaelite works, including John Everett Millais’s Lorenzo and Isabella. At the time, the letters were mysterious, private, and slightly defiant — a way for artists to mark their work while making their own rules.

For this T-shirt, we isolated the PR from that historic mark, allowing it to be read from here: as Puerto Rico, but also as a fragment of rebellion. Two letters, two histories — one rooted in place, the other in a movement that believed art could be remade.
