🧩 What is a wooden burr puzzle — and why can something so simple be so challenging?

Behind its wooden structure is a clever mechanical problem. The pieces interlock in three dimensions, and solving the puzzle means discovering not only which pieces move, but in what sequence.

And taking it apart may only be half the challenge. Putting everything back together can require spatial reasoning, observation, memory, logic, and plenty of patience.

These fascinating puzzles also have a surprisingly long history, including connections with the Chinese Lu Ban and Kongming lock traditions.
