Hoje foi dia de colher Bugalhos de Carvalho para aplicar nas nossas vinhas como fármaco orgânico para a prevenção do Oídio. O Bugalho é uma excrescência do carvalho causada pela acção de certos insectos, que depois é triturado de modo a ficar em pó, para aí sim, ser aplicado na vinha.
O Oídio, juntamente com o Míldio, são as principais doenças que podem aparecer na vinha. Em Produção Biológica o produto homologado mais eficaz para travar este fungo é o Enxofre. Ainda assim o enxofre é um produto inorgânico e por isso não se deve abusar na sua aplicação pois provoca fitotoxidade. Como tal é importante aplicarmos produtos orgânicos em paralelo para ajudar no combate a estes fungos, de maneira a podermos reduzir a dose dos produtos inorgânicos. Já o tínhamos feito com as Urtigas no combate ao Míldio, como apoio ao cobre, e agora voltamos a fazer com os Bugalhos.

Today we harvested Bugalhos from Oaks to apply in our vineyards as an organic treatment for the prevention of Powdery Mildew. Bugalho is an oak excrement caused by the action of certain insects.
The Powdery Mildew, along with Downy Mildew, are the major diseases that can appear in the vine. In Organic Production the only product homologated to halt this fungus is the Sulphur. Even so, sulphur is an inorganic product and therefore should not be abused in its application because it causes phytotoxicity. As such, it is important to apply in parallel organic products to help combat these fungi, to be possible to reduce the dose of inorganic products. We had already done it with Nettles in the fight against Downy Mildew, with the support of copper, and now we are doing it again with Bugalhos.
