The life of tea farmers is full of surprises. Today brought a good one: we were no longer expecting many leaves, but our baskets filled up nicely. Tomorrow, we will process them into another batch of Oolong

This year has been very challenging in many ways. We started with a very fast spring harvest, with plenty of leaves, while most of the helpers had not yet arrived. And just as quickly as it began, it stopped. The summer harvest then started very slowly, with far fewer leaves than in previous years, which is no surprise since we have had no rain for the past two months.

All of this shows us that we must prepare for increasingly unpredictable climate conditions. This autumn, we plan to plant more tea within an agroforestry system, hoping to create a healthier microclimate for the tea plants, as well as for the surrounding trees and other plants 🌳🌱

Workshop Kintsugi ceramic repair with Kristina Mar , ceramist and artist based in Kyoto - Saturday, 26.09.2026, 9h30 - 18h30, in our tea garden

Kintsugi does not seek to conceal imperfections, but rather to reveal the new beauty that emerges through re-creation, celebrating rebirth with a deeper aesthetic and conceptual meaning.

This workshop introduces participants to different techniques for working with urushi lacquer and restoring ceramic pieces. They will experience the full Kintsugi process by starting to restore their own broken ceramic piece and completing the final polishing and metal application stage using small lacquered antique Kyoto porcelain pieces, pre-prepared and cured by the instructor for this purpose.

Coming a little closer to our dream of planting more tea plants and other much-needed trees. These recent heatwaves have reminded us how vital trees are—not only for the microclimate of our tea garden, but for the planet as a whole. Over the next two years, we will continue our mission to enrich the world with more plants 💚

Patience is a very important quality for tea farmers. This year’s summer harvest started very late and slowly, probably because of the strange and extreme weather conditions. Our tea plants were frozen for a while, and we started to get a little nervous. But now, thanks to some rain and cooler temperatures, our tea garden looks promising again, and we have already picked some beautiful leaves for our Oolong production. What a relief!

The first tea from 150-year-old plants, born in the Serra de Sintra.

In the 19th century, at the Parque da Pena, D. Fernando transformed the Serra de Sintra into a true laboratory for the acclimatization of exotic species. At Alto Chá, among mist and silence, around 100 Camellia sinensis plants were planted. Only 28 withstood time, storms, and the passing of years — and remained.

They stand as rare witnesses to an almost forgotten story: one of the oldest experiments in tea cultivation in Portugal. And yet, for over a century, their leaves were never made into tea. Until now.

The first harvest, carried out together with the team from the Park of Pena, was a very special moment. The following day, the leaves gave rise to a green tea, and with it we celebrated the very first tea of the Park of Pena, with guests In the cup, the place reveals itself: the freshness of near-daily mist, the richness of biodiversity, the unique identity of this mountain.

And the journey continues. The next day, we harvested the younger plants, planted from 2015 onwards to help restore Alto Chá. These are the first steps of a new chapter — a tea with its own terroir, rooted in both history and future, in partnership with the Park of Pena.
