Earlier this week I shared sketches and creative process behind this concept. I wanted it to look like connection, a reminder that humans are nature.
Some of the first iterations gave a lot of people darker associations.. like we were squishing the whale, overpowering it, dominating it. With what is happening in Iceland, Norway and Japan, I can 100% understand this view.
I made a few adjustments and I hope this piece now brings a feeling of connection.
The fact that humans are detaching themselves so far from nature is everything that is wrong in this world.
Building cities and roads with no green zones.
Culling or poisoning wild animals that dare to enter “our” zones.
Claiming that the ocean and fish stocks are ours and ours only.
As if we are somehow separate from all of it.
We can’t survive on a planet that is out of balance, and yet we seem to be doing everything we can to push it over that edge.
I’m scared of how far we are willing to push things for profit and growth at all costs. Because at some point, that cost is going to be our lives too.
We are not separate from nature.
We are nature.
