On the left, a picture that hung on my childhood bedroom wall.
On the right, a close-up of Castelo Branco's embroidery, a wedding gift I received.
Tying them together is the carnation, symbolizing Portugal's April Revolution.
The Castelo Branco carnation, steeped in a rich legacy, reminds us to cherish and protect our traditions.
The 25th of April carnation, a symbol of a more recent past, shows that we can choose to change history and that only the traditions we freely decide to preserve are the ones that deserve to endure.
Today, we celebrate 50 years of democracy!
