Between my journey in cybersecurity, achieving milestones in Toastmasters, prioritizing health, and stepping out of my comfort zone, I learned to value progress over perfection. I have never believed in New Year Resolutions. And that’s why I started setting goals, instead, at the start of every year since 2021. This has brought in a lot of difference in my life.

As Denzel Washington says “Dreams without goals are just dreams!” It is up to us to decide whether our dreams remain dreams or they become a reality.

It's that time of the year again! Time to reflect back on the past year. Also, the time to plan for the next. It was in Dec 2021 that I started reflecting back on the last year and planning or setting goals for the coming year. Since then, I have come to realize that self-reflection is an integral part of transforming our lives.

Do audiobooks count as reading?

Oh, absolutely yes. 💯

I've seen countless arguments regarding why it shouldn't be considered as reading. I say, to each their own. If you do not want to count it as reading, then don't. But at the same time, do not judge those who do. Do not tell others that they haven't read it because it was an audiobook. It's their choice just as it is yours not to.

Do you buy books from airports?

Every year on my way back from vacation, I always buy books from the airports in India. These books came with me this time. I guess I'm late to the party with these books and the movie is already out. But, better late than never, right?

The only book I've loved by is Verity. I truly enjoyed that one. But the others just weren't for me. So, keeping my fingers crossed that I will not be disappointed!! 🤞

Have you ever bought a book and then forgotten that you own it?

Please tell me this is normal 🥺

Every time I go to the library, I come back with at least 6 to 10 books. It was during one such visit that I took One By One by Ruth Ware. I read the book in around 2 days and loved it. Before my next visit to return the books, I took a quick look at my shelf to ensure I didn't miss any library books. That's when I saw this big print edition staring back at me.

I seriously had no clue that I owned the book 😭. And, so this book still sits on my shelf unopened and brand new!!

Is it just me, or is this just another bookworm thing?

Another series that I bought because of Bookstagram. This has been on my TBR and shelf for way too long!! Sometimes, I wonder if the unread books on my shelf could talk, what they would tell me every time I buy new books without reading the ones on the shelf!! But, does it stop me from buying more? Nope!

Brigid Kemmerer has used beautiful and descriptive language throughout all the 3 books. The world building is mind-blowing. The first book gives us Rhen’s and Harper’s POV. But even then, Grey had my heart. I was excited to see Grey’s POV in the second book.

The third book had POVs from all four characters, and this was a pleasure to read. This quite literally added so much depth to the plot.

Nowadays, reading time is mostly after everyone has gone to sleep. Which means e-book is the best option! I loved The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. And somehow, it’s his name that came to my mind when I did the search on Libby. This is how I started with The Maidens.

The plot had all the right elements – Greek mythological references, young female students viciously killed as part of a ritual, detailed descriptions, cults, therapist who herself was once under therapy. The rich descriptions painted such a vivid picture in my mind that even weeks after having read the book, I can still recall the Cambridge University surroundings, Mariana’s beach side house back in Greece, etc.

But somewhere towards the end, everything just started going south, and the plot never recovered. The unexpected twist at the end and the murderer was indeed a huge shock. But the reasoning behind it was just too unbelievable and far-fetched. It is also a bit disturbing.

After the last audio book, I was in the mood for yet another. Libby is my go-to app for audiobooks. Since romcom is not a genre in Libby, I searched for romance and Beach Read is the first book that came up. The blurb looked good and I didn’t think twice.
