WHAT: Why reading really does matter! And helping children to develop their true ‘reading’ potential’
As teachers, we are fully aware that ‘good readers make good learners’ and one sure way of firing our students’ imagination is through stories. We all have a favourite book that is dear to us. Reading supports language development but it does much more than that. Reading helps focus attention, develops empathy, social skills, and critical literacy skills. And the earlier you introduce your students to stories, the better! Animated stories and videos allow children to get engaged. Stories provide motivating entertainment, consolidate language and
vocabulary and support young learners love of reading.
In this presentation, we will look at what research actually tells us, and show interactive reading examples from The Thinking Train, Helbling Young Readers and
Marbles.
