WHAT: From clues to clarity: The curious case of learning and assessment (Friday 14.00)
Every classroom is full of clues about student learning. The challenge is knowing how to notice, interpret, and respond to them in ways that deepen learning. Discover practical strategies for co-creating success criteria and gathering meaningful evidence of learning, empowering students to take ownership of their growth. Through practical classroom activities, you’ll learn how to embed
assessment into everyday teaching, making it a natural part of learning rather than a separate task.

WHAT: Assessing writing for A2 Key and B1 Preliminary (Saturday 13.30)
Effective writing assessment goes beyond awarding marks - it provides valuable insights into learners’ performance and guides their next steps. In this practical workshop, you’ll explore how to apply the Cambridge English Qualifications writing assessment scales at A2 Key and B1 Preliminary levels. You’ll assess sample responses, compare your judgements with official examiner comments, and consider how to use assessment criteria to provide targeted feedback that helps learners improve their writing.

WHAT: Why reading really does matter! And helping children to develop their true ‘reading’ potential’
As teachers, we are fully aware that ‘good readers make good learners’ and one sure way of firing our students’ imagination is through stories. We all have a favourite book that is dear to us. Reading supports language development but it does much more than that. Reading helps focus attention, develops empathy, social skills, and critical literacy skills. And the earlier you introduce your students to stories, the better! Animated stories and videos allow children to get engaged. Stories provide motivating entertainment, consolidate language and
vocabulary and support young learners love of reading.
In this presentation, we will look at what research actually tells us, and show interactive reading examples from The Thinking Train, Helbling Young Readers and
Marbles.

WHAT: “Do I matter?” Creating an inclusive classroom part 1 (Friday 15.40)
What does an inclusive classroom look like? In this session, we will consider how to embed inclusive practices into our teaching and to help shift mindsets so that our schools and classrooms are places where both learners and teachers have a sense of belonging and worth.
Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on their own teaching and on how being a more inclusive practitioner can ultimately make them a better and more fulfilled teacher.

WHAT: Small changes, great impact. Creating an inclusive classroom part 2 (Saturday 14.20)
How can we best support our neurodivergent learners to achieve their learning goals? In part 2 of Creating an inclusive classroom, we will shift our focus to some of the specific barriers to learning that our neurodivergent learners might face and discuss what we can introduce into our classroom practice to help learners achieve their learning goals. Participants will take away practical tips and strategies
to add to their teaching toolkit and implement in their classrooms.
