👋 Dear people of Malmö! We are finally planning to pack our book bags and get everything ready for the opening of The English Bookshop at Södra Förstadsgatan 4. And we do have some news for you!

Whilst our permanent shop needs some extra time before opening its doors to all the book lovers, we will give said book lovers a lil’ sneak peek of what we are and what we offer before the Grand Opening. A not-so-little appetiser before we dig in, so to speak…

👀 This ”Sneak Preview”, as we call it, will open after mid-August (we’ll hurry as best we can!), and you can expect books, books, and more books – amongst other fun happenings (!). You’ll find us in the same building as the upcoming permanent shop, two doors west ⬅️⬅️ (still number 4).

We’ll keep you in the loop during this exciting process – so make sure to follow the Malmö shop here on Facebook, and the bookshop on Instagram, if you don’t already: instagram.com/bookshop_se

Soon you’ll be able to sign up for the Malmö shop’s own newsletter as well, to really keep you in the loop (and so we can properly invite you to both the Sneak Preview opening and the Grand Opening!) Keep your eyes peeled!

IT’S TIME FOR SOME R&R! The bookshop is closed for Midsummer festivities and R&R (Reading & Relaxation) on Midsummer’s Eve and Midsummer’s Day (Friday 19th and Saturday 20th June).

On Sunday we’re open 12–16 as usual again.

Come rain, come sunshine – we’ll help you to stock up for Midsummer reading before the holidays (and refill your TBR after the holiday).

A staff favourite for years, great adventure, world building and and all different kinds of hbtqia+ representation! If you're not a experienced fantasy reader, this is a great place to start as well.

📗 Gender Q***r - Maia Kobabe
Another staff favourite for years. A autobiography in graphic novel about eir's childhood and journey to finding eirself.

📘 Private Rites - Julia Armfield
"My new favourite! Slow, quiet, eerie and wet, intermingled with complex family dynamics and grief in a drowning world, topped off with Armfield's stunning prose. love." - Robyn

💜 The Safekeep - Yael van der Wouden
Maybe the most read book among the staff. We sum it up in Elin's words: "I'm convinced that this is the only book to ever have been written? Easy five stars - just so good!"

For those of you who haven't heard, we have our own Reading Challenge with 52 different prompts to broaden your horizons. Here we have some q***r suggestions for three of the more tricky ones 🏳️‍🌈

Prompt: "Author who has visited the bookshop" - Last year during Bokmässan Dustin Thao stopped by the Göteborg shop.

Prompt: "Signed by the author" - Last November we had the honour of Sarah Waters joining our 30 year jubilee in Uppsala and there she signed a lot of copies. This is the last one!

Prompt: "A book with 26 letters in the title" - Aren't we lucky that "On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous" by Ocean Vuong fits this prompt?? 😍

Happy Graduation everyone who has graduated this week! 💐

🥳 Happy graduation day! 🥳

Today is graduation day (gymnasiet) here in Uppsala and we want to say a warm congratulations to all graduates for making it through what can feel like a billion years of school! You did it! 🤗
..but it cannot just be me feeling like it was just a couple of years ago they were our tiny little babies discovering books and stories for the first time? Let's remember that today when they might be a little nervous about new beginnings - what they need for a graduation gift might not be something 'practical', but a really good and inspiring story!

Our shop is full of knowledge, adventure, humour, love and so much more - whatever your graduate might like, we have it.
