Last night we were visited by our friends at Impram GBG who performed their show "And Then There Were Puns" - an Agatha Christie inspired murder mystery! 🕵

How did the murder connect to zeppelins, lizards, shady business-ventures, ex-wives, and the spanish flu? Luckily the fabulous detective with a bit of help from the audience solved the case!

This week we are honouring the life and work of Agatha Christie with some fun events! 🕵️

- Tomorrow (Wednesday) we have an extra reading group for last month's Mystery pick - And Then There Were None! It starts at 19:00 and there are still some spots left so if you've read it and want to discuss it, send us a message!

- On Thursday Impram GBG is coming to do an improvised Agatha Christie show! (Tickets are sold out so you've missed out if you haven't gotten one already!) It's gonna be great!

Summer is almost over, autumn is just around the corner. And that means Anna and Elin are both back from our summer holidays. Huzzah! And did we read books when we were away? Of course we did! And what books it was! Here are some our favourites!

"Lost in the Garden" by Adam S. Leslie: 🌹
A group of friends travel the English countryside to find a lost friend of theirs. But the world is not like it used to be, ghostlike people threaten the safety of the friends, as well as their ominous destination...

"The Monster Baru Cormorant" by Seth Dickinson: ⚔
Part two in a fantasy series following the accountant Baru trying to survive an empire. Personally, I would consider this a MUST for any fantasy reader.

"Make Me Better" by Sarah Gailey: 🏝
Gailey's newest novel, just released. An isolated island, surrounded by a mysterious reef, with people as secretive as the setting. A woman arriving hoping to find love and hope again. Wonderfully written!

"East of Eden" by John Steinbeck ⚖
Believe the hype everybody! This is my favourite book of the summer, if not the whole year! A family story about what we inherit and what we choices we have - good and evil and all that stuff

"The Girls" by John Bowen 🐖
Two le****ns running a gift shop in a 1970's English village, but they also have a dead body in the septic tank! What?! When you want something gruesome and wholesome at once!

"Venus Vanishing" by Rebecca Birrell 🎨
A wonderful debut by Rebecca Birrell about a Jewish artist in 1930's Berlin. It's all about beauty, s*x, love, persecution, legacy, war and it made me shed a little tear!

Yesterday, Sylvia went off to Malmö to start the opening of the (pre) Malmö English Bookshop! SO exciting, yet so bittersweet to say goodbye. Don't forget to follow the The English Bookshop Malmö shop to follow the buildup process!

SO - this week we start creating our sneak preview shop! Shelves to build, books to unpack, carpets to buy, new staff to train, events to plan, more books to unpack and sort, recycling to figure out, authors to reach out to, new friends to make. We’re SO excited to finally break bookish ground at Södra Förstadsgatan 4 - the building with a Green Man above the portal!
Our excitement has been shared by so many of you, we feel entirely humbled. More than 150 people have applied to work with us (!). THANK YOU so incredibly much - your enthusiasm means everything. Unfortunately we can’t hire 150 people to work in the shop, but we’ve put together a cracking team and are looking forward to you all meeting them/us. So thanks for all the bookish love, and thanks for rooting for us in the buildup process. And for keeping your fingers crossed while we work round the clock to bring you the first incarnation of our shop here in Malmö.
We’re not sure about the actual date yet, but it’s soon! And we will let you know once we feel confident about the date. Keep checking in here and follow our work!

The Booker Prize longlisted books are finally in stock! Look at all this literary goodness 🤩 (We're still missing four, but they're on the way as well.)

And as you can spot in the background we have restocked our trending table to bursting!

You guys!! So many books has arrived, Anna can't even carry them all! Thursdays is as always our most thrilling day, because that's New Books Day 🤩

Can you spot the new Riley Sager? And the new James Ellroy? And the new editions of Murakami? And the new Penguin Clothbound titles? Time to get reading we say 📖📖📖
