Today’s customer appreciation post is all about HOLDEN! Partially for Catcher in the Rye’s 75th birthday this month, but mostly for one of my closest friends who I met through the shop. She’s pictured here with her month-old baby, Tully, who is already a shop regular and who you might have seen hanging out around Antikhallarna. If there’s a baby in my arms next time you’re trying to check out, chances are it’s her 👶🏻 Holden is also holding a baby book about her home state of New York and one of her book recs from our shelves, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. Like her literary Holden, this new mother is also Completely Fine!! 😉

Alright guys, if history tells us anything, it’s that July and August are the shops biggest sales months BY FAR, and this year, they’ll be followed by Bokmässan in September 😵‍💫 As we’re already closing in on August, I’m gonna start proactively collecting books to ensure we stay well stocked into the Christmas season. I typically buy kids books, classics, and fiction published within the last 5 years (assuming they’re in relatively good condition). You can get cash for 10-25kr/each or double that in discounts on current stock. Send me an email to get an estimate on your books. Donations are accepted anytime the shop is open!

Late post today but what can I say, I was busy with book club and babies and buyers galore! But I did want to share that I recently got the 1997 Folio Society illustrated edition of I Capture the Castle (the first sentence of which inspired our mural). The Dutch illustrator, Aafke Brouwer, had her own rendering of the text as seen in today’s post. That’s one of my favorite parts of reading - seeing the various interpretations through art, film and other media it inspires.

Viewers of yesterday’s story will be familiar with the first message in today’s post, but I had to share the subsequent conversation it sparked with other kids in the store 🥹 I’m still working towards paying myself a livable salary, but in the meantime, little moments like this make it all worthwhile!
