Last month, when I came across this home, I knew I had to do something about it.
An elderly woman who lives in a fragile 4x5m shelter—pieced together with bamboo, scraps of fabric and rusted metal sheets. She cooks on the ground outside. She prays on cardboars, her toilet is broken, unsafe and offers no privacy.
This Isn’t Just About a House
It’s about dignity.
It’s about giving her back the comfort of a safe space. A door that locks. A clean place to sit, cook and sleep. A proper toilet. And the simple peace of knowing that this small home—no matter how modest—is truly hers.
The Plan: A Humble, Dignified 4x5m Home
With just $2,900 budget, we can rebuild her home using safe and lasting materials as well as new cabinets and whats not :
Brick for the lower walls, strong and weatherproof
Kalsiboard for the upper walls, light and durable
A concrete floor that’s easy to clean
A porch for cooking with a stool so she can prepare meals safely and comfortably
A small, enclosed toilet area, restoring privacy and hygiene
A simple wooden door and window, for security and peace of mind
