I joined LWS Music Academy 李伟菘音乐学院 in March 2023 because of Zhan Hao Laoshi. His professionalism, patience and passion for music were the reasons I stayed.
When he left, the school management never gave students a clear explanation. Whether they were unable or unwilling to do so, I do not know. What I do know is that many of us were left confused, disappointed and frustrated. Even today, I am still upset by how the entire situation was handled.
My bi-weekly lessons were also disrupted for almost a month because of the transition.
I then decided to continue my lessons with Latonia Laoshi. Instead of simply processing my request, I was questioned about why I wanted to take lessons with her. I found this both upsetting and unnecessary. As a paying student with more than S$1,000 worth of unused lesson credits, I did not expect to have to justify my choice of instructor. It made me feel that my preferences as a student were neither respected nor valued.
Latonia is sincere, knowledgeable, patient and genuinely passionate about music. I learned a great deal from her, and she reminded me of why I joined this school in the first place. My decision to leave has absolutely nothing to do with her. She is an excellent teacher and deserves recognition.
After the new management took over, I personally noticed changes that completely changed my impression of the school.
1. Selling trial classes outside the school
Just before one of my lessons with Zhan Hao Laoshi, I personally saw Miss Cora promoting and selling trial classes outside the school. I was shocked. It felt more like street marketing than a professional music academy. That was never the image I had of this school.
2. Students being moved around
I also personally witnessed a young child attending a lesson with an instructor who was not the child's original teacher. Whether there was a valid reason or not, it raised concerns about consistency and continuity in teaching.
3. Hard selling during a workshop
I attended a songwriting workshop organised by the school. The sharing by the invited songwriter was valuable and inspiring.
Unfortunately, what followed completely changed the atmosphere. Instead of ending with music, the session ended with what felt like an aggressive sales pitch for the songwriting course. I left feeling disappointed. It seemed that selling courses had become more important than nurturing students.
On 16 July 2026, I attended my final lesson.
I did not leave because of my teacher.
I left because I no longer recognised the school I joined in 2023.
To me, it has changed from a place driven by passionate educators into one that feels increasingly driven by sales and commercial interests. The culture no longer reflects the values that made me enrol in the first place.
This review reflects my own personal experience over more than three years as a paying student.
If you are considering joining this school, I encourage you to visit, observe carefully, ask questions, and decide whether this is the kind of learning environment you want to invest your time and money in.
我是在 2023 年 3 月加入LWS Music Academy 李伟菘音乐学院 的，而让我报名的原因，就是 Zhan Hao 老师。他的专业、耐心，以及对音乐的热忱，是我一直留在这里学习的原因。
当他离开学校时，校方管理层始终没有给学生一个明确的交代。究竟是他们无法解释，还是不愿意解释，我不得而知。但我知道的是，许多学生都因此感到困惑、失望和沮丧。直到今天，我仍然对学校处理整件事情的方式感到非常不满。
由于这次的人事变动，我原本每两周一次的课程也因此中断了将近一个月。
后来，我决定继续跟随 Latonia 老师上课。
然而，当我提出这个要求时，学校并没有直接替我安排课程，反而询问我为什么想跟她学习。
我觉得这样的询问既令人难过，也毫无必要。
身为一名已经支付学费、仍有超过 1,000 新元课程余额的学生，我从未想过自己竟然需要为选择哪位老师继续上课而作出解释。
这让我觉得，作为学生，我的选择并没有受到尊重，也没有被重视。
幸运的是，Latonia 老师是一位真诚、专业、耐心，而且对音乐充满热忱的老师。
我从她身上学到了很多，也让我重新找回当初报名这所学校时，对音乐学习的期待。
我离开学校，绝对不是因为她。
相反，她是一位非常优秀、值得肯定与认可的老师。
自从新管理层接手之后，我亲眼见证了许多改变，而这些改变彻底颠覆了我对这所学校的印象。
1. 在学校门口推销试听课程
就在我上 Zhan Hao 老师课程前，我亲眼看到 Miss Cora 在学校门口向路人推销试听课程。我当下非常震惊。
那种感觉更像是在街头促销，而不是一所专业音乐学校应有的形象。这绝对不是我当初认识的那所学校。
2. 学生被调换老师
我也亲眼看到一位年幼的学生，被安排到一位并非原本授课老师的课堂。
无论背后是否有合理原因，这都让我开始担心学校在教学延续性和师生关系上的安排是否受到足够重视。
3. 工作坊结束后的强力推销
我曾参加学校举办的一场歌曲创作工作坊。
受邀的词曲创作者分享了许多宝贵且富有启发性的经验，这部分内容让我受益良多。
然而，接下来发生的事情，却彻底改变了整场活动的氛围。
原本应该以音乐交流作为结束的工作坊，最后却演变成对歌曲创作课程的一场强力推销。我带着失望离开，因为我感觉学校越来越重视课程销售，而不是学生的学习与成长。
2026 年 7 月 16 日，是我在这所学校的最后一堂课。
我离开，并不是因为我的老师。
我离开，是因为这已经不是我 2023 年加入时所认识的那所学校了。
在我看来，它已经从一个由充满教育热忱的人所营造的学习环境，逐渐变成一个越来越重视销售和商业利益的地方。
这里的文化，已经不再是当初吸引我报名的价值与初衷。
