During Lost Pet Prevention month, one important thing to check is that your catโs microchip data is up to date. It is fairly common for owners to have their pet microchipped, but the chip to not be linked to any data in any database or the details to get old as you move or change phone numbers.
Microchipping and being on a database is not required for cats in Singapore, but this simple step can be a lifesaver in the event that your feline friend goes astray. ๐ท๏ธ๐ฑ
๐ Where does the microchip information come from? First your vet must microchip your cat and provide you with the details of the microchip. This is often easiest during sterilisation, when cats are under anaesthesia.
๐พ The registration process can be separate and you should remember to transfer the details of any new feline family member that has a microchip. If you are not sure if a cat has a microchip, you can ask a vet to try to find one.
๐ How to Register Your Cat's Microchip with Animal and Veterinary Services (AVS):

2๏ธโฃ Login via Singpass: Access the registration portal
3๏ธโฃ Microchip Enquiry: Select "Microchip (Others)" and navigate to the microchip enquiry section. Here, you can verify if your cat's microchip is registered and associated with your contact details.
4๏ธโฃ Microchip Submission: To register your cat's microchip, choose "Microchip/Tag Data Submission"
By registering your cat's microchip, you provide yourself with a safety net. In the unfortunate event that your feline friend goes missing, you will be notified if their microchip is scanned, increasing the chances of a happy reunion.
There are other databases you can register the microchip details to and some accept details if your pet is lost and you know the microchip number, but the cost is higher. You also risk someone scanning the microchip before you have time to act. So make sure the details are up to date today and you know your pets' microchip numbers.
