Have I ever designed or painted a mural before in my life, nope! Did I let that stop me, nope!
This is by far the largest art work I have ever designed. I can’t believe it’s real. It started as a motifs workshop with the kids at urbansketchplus with plants, shapes and patterns they saw around pearls hill terrace (please find the rambutan tree, cats hiding and turtles). I was then tasked with “putting it together” *panic mode* I started analog putting the shapes together on paper, then worked on procreate to try and make sense of the composition. From black and white lines and wonky shapes to adding colours (then I had to stop myself from suggesting we add every colour in the rainbow). Picking the shade of pink, and green and turquoise was hard, let’s just say I have many versions in drafts.
From the pencil freehand wall drawing, to outlines with pens, to the kids seeing their motifs and painting the wall, to the other volunteers- each one of us winging it but supporting one another like we know what we’re doing. The best part was getting our hands dirty (literally) and figuring stuff out with the most inspiring humans and kids ever. We all put ourselves outside the realm of what is safe and just look at the results.
Pinch me moment when I walked in and saw the mural in all its glory. Thanks for the opportunity Nina & Geraldine, to be a part of something at this scale for the kids by the kids.
