Oral supplements for hair loss:
The most well researched oral medication is Finasteride, with the brand name Propecia in 1mg dosage.

How it works :
Finasteride blocks the action of an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase, that changes testosterone to another hormone Dihydroxy-testosterone. that works in hair follicles to cause Androgenetic Alopecia or hair loss in males.
The effect of finasteride will only last as long as the medicine is taken. When it is stopped, the hair will be lost.

I am currently in my early 30s, and notice that my hair is thinning both in the hair line as well as the top.
This is getting worse the last 6 months. Is there a way for me to know the cause and whether it’s treatable ?

Given your age and your description, the most likely cause for your hair loss is AGA Androgenetic Alopecia or male pattern hair loss.
Tell tale signs are :
Thinning hair density in along the hair line ( M shape) and the crown (O Shape),
Shorter and finer hair structure
Weakness of the hair root ( pull sign )
Family history :
It does run in the family, but research has found that the genes run in the maternal side.
