The book launch is done! 👏 👏 👏 it was a really successful and meaningful book launch with speeches from General Winston Choo, and Asher. Then there was a panel discussion by Singaporean men who served NS over the span of 50 years. The progress that Singapore has made really showed up.

I'll let Asher's IG tell you about the launch and the people who came! It was great to see the actual books from the book! 😆

I've already been asked by friends how they can get still get autographed copies of BMT SKETCHBOOK! So I've been thinking of how to get autographed copies mail ordered! Pm me if you are interested! 😊

Hello dear friends! It's been a long haitus but we're here with a quick catch up/ update on Asher and an exciting announcement!

Asher is now 24 years old and he just completed his first year of undergraduate studies in Architecture in London! (He managed to get a government overseas merit scholarship. 🙏)
He's back for summer holidays!

In 2021, while in NS, his sketchbooking caught the attention of the CO, who referred him to Pioneer Magazine and after their article, Asher's story of drawing in BMT went viral. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/bmt-sketch-draw-tekong-saf-asher-ong-2183116

He was approached by Landmark Books (the same publisher who in recent years published Gen Winston Choo's memoirs), to have his sketchbook published and into the hands of the public.
And here we are!...
Asher's BMT SKETCHBOOK is going to be launched THIS SUNDAY at 2.30pm at CCK SAFRA!!! (See photo for more details.)

The family is so proud of his work. It's a really interesting read, a load of nostalgia for those who have gone through NS, and a great headstart for those who have yet to serve to know what to expect!

There's a carnival going on at the same time as the launch and Asher will be book signing at the book stall at the carnival area after the launch! Hope to see you all there!
But even if you are unable to make it this Sunday, the BMT Sketchbook will be available at major bookstores: Kino, Popular, Epigram, Book Bar. So when you see it, you can say, hey! I know this guy and his family! 😊

Hey all! Remember in 2018 when that CNA video that created a rash of bad comments about Asher asking for a macbook for school? So many people jumped on the bandwagon and broad-brushed Asher as a SPOILT BRAT. Thankfully, many of you also stood up for us with your kind comments and sharing the post I wrote that defended Asher's request for a more powerful computer for his work.
Here's a belated update on that story. I never mentioned this 2 years ago because I didn't want it to look like we were doing all that to ask for charity. A couple of days after the story broke, a really generous lady gifted a BRAND NEW Macbook to Asher. We were so grateful for her kindness and generosity. At that point, our family finances could not have afforded Asher that computer but this lady stepped in and met that need. She didn't expect anything in return but Asher did what he could to repay her by offering a free family photoshoot. :)
Fast forward 3 years, Asher has made good on that gifted Macbook. It has been the main machine he used for his design submissions in Spatial Design, NYP. Thanks to that tool that was provided him, through his hard work and some talent, Asher has graduated with top honours: a GPA of 3.99, scoring 14 distinctions out of 26 modules. And he has been awarded with the Lee Hsien Loong outstanding achievement Award for Design and Media.
