Grandma Patchwork

With ties that bind, threads intertwine. Working a pair of aged wrinkled hands, Grandma Tay meticulously embroiders yet another piece of timeless fabric patchwork. What started as a hobby to keep her agile and nimble, Grandma Tay takes a cotton to sewing patchwork for a purpose. A genteel old lady with a bounteous of love, 85-year old Grandma Tay sews purposefully on a daily basis in the name of charity. Equipped with quality cotton fabric she purchases herself, she single-handedly contributes to this old fashion hobby of knitting which requires utmost patience and undivided concentration.

We at Erin Shop are sincerely inspired by how much effort and resolution Grandma Tay devotes in creating each patchwork piece. With different colour combination and distinctive shapes to consider, without the assistance of any modern technology, fashioning each patchwork piece is by no means an easy feat! To support Grandma Tay’s vision, we commit ourselves to contribute our share in charity. In helping her to complete sewing the border and backing of her patchwork, the team at Erin Shop aspires to create a series of hand-made handicraft specially catered to suit each individual’s liking. Starting with basic cushion covers to table runners, we aim to expand the series based on your valuable opinion. Profits from each piece sold will be donated to Grandma Tay’s choice of charity.

What is more heartwarming than to receive a gift so original, distinctive and hand-made with tender loving care? Yes that is what we have at Erin Shop, Grandma Tay’s very own patchwork.

CowParade

They traveled around the globe, from Chicago to Tokyo, Manchester to Barcelona. They catalyzed the gathering of 5'000 artists worldwide. They are ones who raised over $20 million through charitable organizations. Who or what holds this phenomenal magnetism that enamor the hearts of many to celebrate the cause of art? The answer is CowParade, the largest and most successful public art event in the world.

Why cows, some may question. To the eyes of celebrants of CowParade, the cow is a universally beloved animal. It is the symbol of divinity and history, with an innate capability to mesmerize the masses. Or simply put, quoted as, "She simply makes everyone smile". The three distinct shapes of the cow, namely standing, grazing, reclining, allow artists the freedom to venture and fashion the basic cow form into incredible works of art. So true is the novelty of the art that it has been estimated over thousands of Cows have been designed yet no two are in facsimile. Beautiful irony; the Cows are contrived separately yet they share the same purpose- to commemorate the festivity of art.

The Cows often illustrates peculiar depiction of local lifestyle, with themes including city life and even pop culture. These fiberglass sculptures are situated at places such as train stations, important avenues and parks, to gain maximum awareness from the public eye. The concept of CowParade gave birth in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1998 by artistic director Walter Knapp, with inspiration from early similar public exhibition of painted Lions, the symbol of Zurich. The three distinct, most common shapes of the cow were conceived by Pascal Knapp, a Swiss sculptor tasked to initiate the production of the cows specifically for Cow Parade events.

Traditionally, the CowParade raises funds for their beneficiaries through the conduct of art auctions with live bidding. At Erin Shop, we bring these extravagant pieces of art onto our very shores for your collection. Each piece brought into Erin is sold exclusively hence no two are found the same. We believe that this help preserve the prestige and originality of each Cow sold.
