Long before many of the world’s most celebrated distilleries existed, Luzhou Laojiao was already crafting baijiu in Sichuan back in 1573.

Recognised as one of China’s Four Great Baijiu, Luzhou Laojiao is the benchmark for Nong Xiang (Strong Aroma) Baijiu, a style admired for its rich fragrance, remarkable smoothness and elegant, lingering finish.

If your only experience with baijiu has been fiery or overpowering, this Baijiu may change your perspective. Get a sip of Luzhou Laojiao if you haven’t.

Baijiu is the world's most consumed liquor, with people drinking more than 4 billion litres per year, yet few know about it outside of China.

The making of Baijiu is a complicated process, from grain to glass.

The production process begins with careful selection of the finest grains that form the foundation of an aromatic baijiu, steaming, fermentation, distillation, years of aging and blending to bottling.

If your first Baijiu was too strong or too spicy, you probably haven’t tasted the right aroma style that suit your individual preference yet.
When you are discovering Baijiu for the first time, understanding these three classic aroma styles : Qing Xiang (Light aroma), Nong Xiang (Strong aroma), Jiang Xiang (Sauce aroma), is the perfect place to begin.

Like wine, Baijiu has different personalities. Baijiu is characterised by its aroma styles.
Each style offers a unique tasting experience shaped by its ingredients and centuries of craftsmanship. Finding the right Baijiu is part of the journey.

🌿 清香型 (Qing Xiang)

The easiest style for beginners
Think:

- light
- clean
- floral
- refreshing

Often recommended for sake or vodka drinkers who prefer delicate flavours.

🌾 浓香型 (Nong Xiang)

Rich, fruity and harmonious
This is the style I recommend for most newcomers.

Expect:
- ripe fruit
- sweetness
- smooth finish
- balanced aroma

Brands like Luzhou Laojiao (including 1573) are excellent examples of this aroma style.

🌰 酱香型 (Jiang Xiang)

Deep, savoury and complex
This is where Moutai belongs.

Expect:
- roasted notes
- soy-like umami
- earthy complexity
- long finish
Many enthusiasts grow to appreciate it over time.

A Legacy That Shaped Chinese Winemaking, The Pioneer That Never Stops

Founded in 1892, every great wine begins with a sense of place. Changyu was born in Yantai, the birthplace of modern Chinese winemaking. Its maritime climate, cooling sea breeze and fertile terroir are perfect conditions for producing wines of elegance, balance and character.

At ALH, we are proud to bring this iconic Chinese winery to Singapore, connecting wine lovers with high quality wines that last for many generations.
