Typewriter tips
We have witnessed and heard of negative experiences (damaged, not fitting description, etc) with acquiring typewriters from various sources, so we thought it would be timely to share some tips when choosing your first typewriter.
1. Ask if you are able to test out the typewriter. If the the print in extremely faint and the seller insists itโs because the ink ribbon has dried out and they do not have any fresh ones to type a new sample with, it may be wise to reconsider.
2. Ask if they supply compatible ink ribbons (different groups for different brands and models) so that you may enjoy your typewriter for a long time to come with the least amount of hassle.
Ask them to show how to install
3. Ask if you may send the typewriter back to the buyer in the event that something goes wrong with your machine. If the answer is the sale is strictly โas-isโ, you may want to reconsider your options.
4. If he says that it could be easily fixed pls stay away ..he would have done so and sell it at a higher price. Parts are not easy to find as typewriters have stop production in the late 80s.
5. ASK FOR A WARRANTY 1 YEAR OR WILL HE BE ABLE TO ASIST IF PROBLEMS OCCUR
5. Ask them to demo how every button or lever work.
Sometimes it does not work or the seller himself have no idea how or what this function does.
