August is shaping up to be another month of gathering, learning, and making together.

A little reminder that Yarning Hearts will be closed on 9 August as we celebrate National Day. We will reopen as usual on 11 August, Tuesday.

Here’s what’s coming up for the rest of the month:

🧶 17 Aug — Texture Together CAL Cast-On (Zoom)
Have your Linda Skuja pattern and yarn ready as we cast on together for our very first community crochet-along.

🪡 22 Aug — Hana F***n Sashiko Workshop with Chow_L² 🪡🧵| Sashiko Art & Handwork
A mindful afternoon learning the timeless art of Japanese sashiko.

🌿 23 Aug — Embroider Mending Workshop with Shu Ning
Back by popular request, come discover how a little stitch can breathe new life into well-loved garments.

🖌️ 29 Aug — 家 (Jiā): Chinese Calligraphy & Illustration Workshop with Ros Lin | Chinese Calligraphy and Art. 🇸🇬
A thoughtful afternoon exploring the meaning of “home” through brush, ink, and illustration.

🧶 30 Aug — Lyrical Threads: Mindful Crafternoons
Bring along your current project and enjoy an unhurried afternoon of crafting, conversation, and community.

Whether you’re joining us to learn something new, reconnect with your craft, or simply spend a few hours making alongside others, we’d love to have you with us.

Hello!
I’m 2.

I’ve been working here my whole life.

Most toddlers collect toys.
I collect natural fibres.
My favourite yarns are silk mohair and cashmere.

I love welcoming new friends, rearranging shelves and trying on everyone’s finished makes… even if they’re three sizes too big. 😂

I don’t usually throw tantrums…

Unless someone says,
“You already have enough yarn.”

🧶 Texture Together: A Linda Skuja Crochet-Along with Yarning Hearts

Yarning Hearts is finally having our first crochet-along!

Choose any Linda Skuja design you love, whether it’s a standalone pattern from Ravelry or one from her latest book, Nordic Textures in Crochet Garments, and crochet along with us for two months.

Everyone may be making something different, but we’ll be brought together by Linda’s beautiful textures, plenty of yarn chatter and community encouragement!

We’re aiming to cast on together on 17 August over zoom, so now is the time to choose your pattern, plan your yarn and start swatching!

✨ Special CAL offers

Linda has very kindly extended a special offer to our community: enjoy 10% off her Ravelry patterns when purchasing during August.

Once you’ve chosen your project, bring or show us your Linda Skuja pattern or book at Yarning Hearts and receive 10% off the yarn purchased for your CAL project.

🧶 Join the dedicated Texture Together topic in our Telegram community to share your pattern, yarn and cast-on ideas and meet your fellow CAL makers!

This is a community crochet-along rather than a guided workshop. Each participant will need their own authorised copy of their chosen pattern.

Let’s make some texture together!

July’s Lyrical Threads was a gentle reminder that mindfulness doesn’t always mean sitting still. It can be found in every stitch, every conversation, and every moment shared around the table. 🧶❤️

As our hands kept busy, we took time to pause and reflect through a simple activity of drawing dots and connecting lines. Each dot represented the people in our lives. As the lines slowly came together, so did a beautiful reminder: none of us journeys alone.

Perhaps that’s what Lyrical Threads has always been about.

Not just finishing projects, but finding community.
Not just making stitches, but making connections.

Thank you to everyone who spent your Friday evening slowing down with us. We hope you left with a little more calm, a little more inspiration, and a few more threads connecting you to this wonderful community.

Until the next Lyrical Threads - save 30 August 2026!

There was one question that stayed with me after attending the Company of Good Conferment & Conference 2026 organised by National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre - NVPC yesterday.

“What is your corporate purpose?”

Not what you sell.
Not how successful your business is.
But why it exists in the first place.

As I reflected on that question, I realised that Yarning Hearts was never meant to be just a yarn shop.

It has always been about creating a place where people can slow down, learn, create, find encouragement, and discover that crafting is so much richer when shared with others.

Receiving the Company of Good (1 Heart) recognition is truly an honour. More than the award itself, it was inspiring to stand alongside businesses of every size that are finding their own ways to make a positive difference, while still building sustainable businesses.

This recognition also belongs to our community. YOU!🥰

To everyone who has crafted for our charity initiatives, supported our environmental efforts by embracing natural fibres, bringing your own bags, joined our gatherings, workshops and conversations, or simply chosen to be part of Yarning Hearts…thank you. ♥️

You’ve reminded us that doing good isn’t always found in grand gestures. Often, it’s built through small acts of generosity, shared over time.

Sometimes, doing good begins with something as simple as a ball of yarn. ❤️

One little transport update… that makes quite a difference. 🚆💛

With the Circle Line now a complete loop, getting to Yarning Hearts has become even more convenient for many of you.

If you’re coming from places like Cantonment, Keppel, Buona Vista, Pasir Panjang or Holland Village, your journey may now be simpler with fewer transfers, shorter journey and a more direct ride.

Sometimes the hardest part of starting a project is simply making the trip. Hopefully, getting here is now just that little bit easier.

We’ll have the yarn ready when you arrive. 🧶
