📚Tidy by Emily Gravett - story about a raccoon who is obsessive about cleaning up the forest. In a bid to make everything scrupulously neat, he uproots the trees even and lays down concrete flooring everywhere. But he slowly realizes that the sanitized neatness came at a cost—the other animals disappeared, he couldn’t reach his underground home ...He realizes that it’s worth enduring a little untidiness for a little more “aliveness.”

The book is able to convey an important message about clearing up our forests through the raccoon’s misadventures. Super cute illustrations too.

Our first storytime of the year was a momentous celebration of trees! It’s always rewarding to have a fun-time stories while taking a moment to touch on timely topics that are important to us.

This is what we did yesterday...

Wish you all a very happy new year!

Given the devastations caused in the Australian fires and the general environmental degradation, this year I am going to direct my storytime to nature-related themes. It’s never too young to learn and maybe some small seed will be planted in their young minds that will help make them become more ecologically conscious human beings. Maybe helping our children be conscious will make us more conscious too!

Happy Halloween!

Easily the most fun storytime of the year.

We read two books - The Room on the Broom and the Princess and The Wizard, both by Julia Donaldson.

Room on the Broom was a participative performance with Puppets.

Following the story, we made witch’s stew. Each child had to throw different things ( lizard’s heart, giant’s toenail etc) into a wizard’s cauldron. The magic from the stew resulted in a sizzling cheese pizza emerging from my oven.

I had planned to read another book ‘Even Monsters Go to School’ but the children were keen on a witch Photoshoot so that’s what we did.

After that we had craft session where they had to design their own monster and give it a name.

Overall a spooktacular time for all!
