We are purveyors of fine music — focusing on the curation of music titles in the genres of jazz, electronic, modern/experimental classical, global and Asia-Pacific sounds. The Analog Vault, established in 2015, is an online + offline retail establishment offering a wide and tightly curated mix of vinyl records + other music & analog goods, including books & magazines relating to music and music culture. We focus on the curation of music titles in the genres of jazz, hip hop, electronica, soul, blues, reggae, indie, modern/experimental classical, world, and local music. Located on the second floor of the Esplanade mall in Singapore, the Esplanade being the premier music and performing arts venue in Singapore. We carefully curate and handpick a deep selection of titles we aim to be the destination retail point where culture vultures find music to nurture their minds and souls.

An essential work for the audiophile seeking the unaltered emotion of the live performance and the absolute purity of analog sound.

The recording is built around a trio: G*e Tortorizio (guitar), Mauro Maurizi (double bass), and Andrea Donnini (trumpet), captured live in the studio with no overdubbing. Careful attention was given to microphone selection, placement, and the acoustic environment itself. Recorded in a large stone-walled room within an old palace, the space plays a central role, contributing air, decay, and a natural sense of openness.

Miles Davis - Birth Of The Cool (Blue Note Tone Poet Series, Mono)

Miles Davis’ earliest masterpiece Birth Of The Cool gets the royal treatment in celebration of the legendary trumpeter’s Centennial. Following his trial-by-fire tenure in the Charlie Parker Quintet in the mid-1940s, Davis emerged with bolstered confidence and a creative hunger to explore new directions.

A regular gathering of like-minded musicians at arranger Gil Evans’ Manhattan apartment provided the workshop at which the Miles Davis Nonet was born, and in 1949-50 Davis led three seminal sessions for Capitol Records that documented this exciting new music with a cast of collaborators including Gerry Mulligan, Lee Konitz, J.J. Johnson, Kai Winding, John Lewis, Max Roach, Kenny Clarke, and others.

Kamaal Williams - Stings

Born in London and of Taiwanese descent, Kamaal Williams (aka Henry Wu) is the creator and founder of the London-based jazz duo Yussef Kamaal, and the album Black Focus reinstated a new wave of jazz in the United Kingdom.

“Stings”, which spans 11 tracks, is rooted in the South London jazz scene that birthed Kamaal, but “levitates into the impressionist symphonies of Claude Debussy,” we’re told, “and the cosmic realm of futuristic hip-hop and electronic beats”, with the album’s main body of work staying in the orchestral framework. The album follows 2018’s “The Return” and 2020’s “Wu Hen”. It was recorded in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago over the first months of 2022. The project began during the pandemic. For the first time in his career, the Peckham-bred artist was fully independent. No label or booking agent in his ear. Time for isolation, reflection, and spirituality.

‘Ascension’, released in 1966 on Impulse! Records, stands as one of John Coltrane’s most radical and influential works. Subtitled “Edition I & II” to reflect the two complete takes recorded at the session—and presented together on LP for the first time—the piece is a nearly 40-minute large-ensemble performance marking Coltrane’s decisive embrace of the avant-garde. Alongside Coltrane’s tenor saxophone are trumpeters Freddie Hubbard and Dewey Johnson; saxophonists Pharoah Sanders, Marion Brown, John Tchicai, and Archie Shepp; pianist McCoy Tyner; bassists Art Davis and Jimmy Garrison; and drummer Elvin Jones.

The music alternates between densely textured collective improvisation and extended solo statements, conjuring a hurricane of violent, searching sound. Initially controversial for its intensity and freedom, ‘Ascension’ has since come to be recognized as a landmark of modern jazz and a defining statement of the emerging free-jazz movement.

Boy Katindig Official - After Midnight (Sama Sama Records)

Jazz-fusion, disco-funk, Latin jazz and batucada rhythms get the Filipino treatment on After Midnight, the sublime second album from keyboardist Boy Katindig. Originally released in 1980, After Midnight draws heavy influence from soul and funk contemporaries in the US as well as Latin America, in particular the famed Brazilian percussionist Paulinho da Costa. Dominating the Manila jazz scene of the 1970s and 80s, Boy Katindig hailed from musical royalty, with his father Romy Katindig and other family members having pioneered the Latin jazz sound in the region. After successfully carving out a niche in modern fusion in the Philippines, he eventually moved to the west-coast US and set up his own label in the 90s.

This album is lovingly and officially reissued by Sama Sama Records, a boutique label from DJ and collector Norsicaa, who ran the esteemed Soundway Records for 8 years and released the compilation Ayo Ke Disco in late 2024.
