Mr Tuba (wheezing and rattling like a leaky kettle):
“Techhhh… COUGH COUGH… Okay so… I may have… clonk clonk… taken a teensy tiny nosedive off the stand… turns out concrete and I are NOT best buds! My tubing’s all squished up like a cheap soda can, and right now I sound more like a sick goose than a tuba!! honk-cough”
Cheeky Trumpet (zooming over with a high-pitched giggle):
“WHOA buddy – you look like you’ve been in a fight with a rolling pin! And wow – that noise you just made? I’ve heard better sounds from a clogged drain!”
Worried Conductor (hurrying over, adjusting their glasses):
“Oh no, Mr Tuba! We’ve got that big concert next week – what are we going to do?! Without you, our low end is just… gestures vaguely… empty air!”
Tech (trying not to laugh, tapping a wrench against their palm):
“Hm… ‘Teensy tiny nosedive’ eh? Looks more like you tried to wrestle a bulldozer and lost! Alright big guy – I’m gonna knock you out for a bit with my fancy repair juice (it’s just lubricant, don’t get excited). When you wake up, you’ll be jamming better than ever! And don’t worry, Conductor – he’ll be ready to rock that stage.”
Trumpet (nudging Mr Tuba playfully):
“Yeah yeah, hurry up and get fixed – I need someone to make my brilliant notes sound even better! Though I gotta admit… that goose honk was kinda funny…”
A few hours later…
---
Mr Tuba (blasting out a note so deep and clear it makes nearby mugs rattle AND the Trumpet jump):
“AHHHHH!!! WHOA WHOA WHOA!!! I sound INCREDIBLE – like I’ve been given a voice upgrade!! And my rotaries? They’re spinning so fast I feel like I could enter a valve race!! WOOOOOO!!”
Trumpet (fanning their bell, pretending to be winded):
“OKAY okay – no need to show off! …Though I gotta say… you do sound pretty awesome now…”
Conductor (beaming from ear to ear):
“Perfect timing! Now we can really make that crowd shake in their seats – just promise me you’ll stay ON the stage this time?!”
Tech (stepping back to avoid getting bumped):
“Easy there, rockstar! You’re good to go – now go blow some minds (and maybe stick to walking instead of diving from now on, yeah?!)”
