One sunflower pendant or all three?

This design is built from three small pieces of tubular pe**te. The two outer tubes finish with raised yellow petals. The center tube has a straight edge, so it also works as a smaller pendant on its own.

New beading tutorial: make a cherry blossom one petal at a time. 🌸

Part of the learning process in my Embroidery Diploma is to think outside of comfortable borders. Forced myself to create a design which is not typical for me.

What happens when embroidery stops lying flat and starts growing spines? 🖤🧵

My latest diploma module is devoted to 3D embroidery - creating raised and free-standing forms with thread, beads, wire, fabric and, occasionally, polymer clay.

The brief was Under the Sea, and my final piece will be a 25×25 cm ocean reef filled with textured rocks, seaweed, corals, glowing anemones and dimensional marine life.

One small detail became a project of its own: the sea urchin.

We made about 150 individual black polymer-clay spines, flattened one end of each, baked them, drilled tiny holes through them, and stitched them one by one onto a padded dome covered in chenille thread.

The finished sea urchin is small.

The amount of work behind it was not. 🤪

You get Hand & Lock, Britain's oldest embroidery atelier.

In my latest blog post, I’m exploring the fascinating merger of two traditions:

A personal dilemma that many can relate to (dreams vs. reality).

When I tell people I’m learning embroidery, they often picture cozy cross-stitch projects in a comfy chair. That’s… not exactly what I’m doing. 😄

But I’m actually diving into couture embroidery, the intricate, high-end technique you see in fashion houses like Chanel and Dior, where every bead and stitch is handcrafted with care.

I’m enrolled in a full diploma program that spans about 9 months, with 5 modules and 5 final projects, and it could take up to 2 years to complete.

I wanted to share my journey so far, what I’m learning, the techniques behind couture embroidery, my own designs and projects, plus some behind-the-scenes moments.
