Smo majhen studio, kjer se vse vrsti okoli 60 let stare tiskarske tehnike in opreme.

Imamo nekaj ton svinčenih črk, pa lesenih za plakate, in celo plastičnih iz že davno pozabljene Vzhodne Nemčije. Oblikujemo in natisnemo plakate, vizitke, voščilnice, vse seveda na zelo ekološki papir. Naša tiskarska oprema je pestra: od zelo preproste namizne stiskalnice za poskusni odtis do popolnoma avtomatskega zaklopnega stroja Heideleberg. Čeprav je narejen že leta 1950, še vedno tiska z izj

emno natančnostjo. V preteklih letih smo si nabrali veliko znanja o tehniki visokega tiska in to znanje sedaj delimo na različne načine. Organiziramo Festival črk, imamo premično tiskarno, ki smo jo postavili kar na star tricikel. Z njo prek ugank, ki jih natisne tricikel, pripovedujemo zgodbe o mestu, natisnemo pa tudi sličice. We are a small letterpress studio in which everything revolves around approximately 60 years old printing techniques and machinery. We have a few tonnes of lead letters, wooden letters for posters and even plastic ones from the long forgotten Eastern Germany. We design and print posters, business cards and greeting cards – all on eco-friendly paper. Our printing machinery is very diverse as it ranges from a very simple table top press used for test prints to the entirely automated Heideleberg GT. Even though the Heideleberg was produced in 1950 it still remains an extremely precise printing machine. During the past years we have accumulated vast knowledge on the letterpress technique and now we try to spread this knowledge in various ways. Amongst others we organize the Festival of Letters, and we even have a mobile press that is mounted on an old tricycle. We use riddles that are printed by the tricycle to tell different stories about the town, and we also print pictures. Marko Drpić, founder

A less romantic part of our work: moving valuable equipment in heavy rain. When interns come to our studio, I often hear them say “Oh, what would I do if I had such a studio!” Shall I ruin the romantic moment and tell them that I have moved a lot of equipment at -10 degrees so they could now comfortably play with it, that I’m so soaked for an hour that there is no dry part in which I would wipe the lens of the phone? Of course not. Anyhow, see you in London at WTM just a few days, where I’m going to share all the passion that comes with being a letterpress printer.

Relocating heavy equipment usually involves two difficult steps that require some skill, especially if you do it alone and without proper tools:
- Mounting it on a palette and
- Getting it to ground level if it’s not already there.

After 30 years of teaching experience, today’s workshop with 13-year-old school kids was an eye-opener. Here’s just one incident among many.
We printed a poster with a typographical portrait of the man who translated and published the first book in Slovene. The reaction was, "Why would we care about someone long dead?"
As the group was too big for the studio, one of the presses was set up outside. “These posters are crap”, they said. So they started to sell them to passersby.
I was startled. "Alright, then, I want my share." Of course, they asked why, so I decided to give them a quick business lesson. Your thoughts?
