This was my third consecutive day in Port of Spain (a personal record for me, the south girl who prefers on most days to stick to home turf).
September 14th 2025, my entire LinkedIn feed was filled with stories from everyone who participated in RBC’s 5K. It sounded like so much fun that I was low key jealous I didn’t even know about 5Ks in those days and how much fun they are that as soon as RBC launched their 5K to the public this year I immediately signed up.
This morning I didn’t even wait for the alarm clock to sound at 4 am because I was so nervous about participating in what was my largest race (I was told over 5,000 bibs were sold). I think I was scared about being trampled over (this is what 4 hours of sleep does to one’s brain).
However, I am happy to report that I had a great walk, I got a lovely token bag with some snacks which I obviously brought home for Jeeks and I met a lot of my customers who are also big 5K aficionados.
Every event can have improvements but RBC Bank has been my personal bank of choice since 2005 and they have always treated me well. Their Online Banking platform is the easiest to use in my opinion, I love the fact that their telephone support is 24 hours, 7 days a week and you can actually talk to a person when you call, if you travel internationally you can access up to US $200.00 cash per day from the foreign ATM which converts the TTD in your account into US cash (no other local Bank gives you this convenience), your Credit Card is topped up moments after you transfer funds from your account to it for real time convenience, if you deposit cash in the ATM you have immediate access to your funds and I am sure there are lots of other cool features that exist that I may not be familiar with.
I was so happy to participate in today’s 5K for kids hosted by my favourite bank and in a heartbeat I would sign up to walk every year for this noble cause.
Leo their Mascot deserves special mention because he was doing yeoman service by posing for hundreds of pictures. I observed him stooping down to meet kids at their level and just being a very polite to everyone who wanted a picture with special effects (he was all Team People).
Thank you Team RBC for the race and the excellent service I receive as a customer. I hope you raised a lot of money for your pet project and thank you for also thinking of all your patrons and ensuring we all got a goodie bag. Not all of us are athletes so it was nice to know that we the walkers also mattered in the race village.
