Today, we honour the strength, resilience and enduring spirit of those who fought for freedom.

African Emancipation Day is a time to reflect on the sacrifices of our ancestors and to celebrate the rich cultural heritage they helped shape. Their legacy lives on through our traditions, our creativity and the unmistakable sound of the national instrument.
At MITTCO, we remain committed to preserving and promoting the steelpan - a symbol of innovation, resilience and national pride that continues to unite people across the world.

Happy African Emancipation Day from the team at Musical Instruments of Trinidad and Tobago.

Musical Instruments of Trinidad and Tobago (MITTCO) has been at the forefront of developing the steelpan ecosystem, alongside many dedicated stakeholders.

For the past several years, the University of Maryland has hosted the Terrapin Music Camp for students aged 12–17. Previously, the program relied on borrowing instruments from various sources. However, with the assistance of Dr. Josanne Francis, the university was able to acquire its own steelband. MITTCO was proud to supply the instruments and provide additional support to help make this possible.

This year, the students learned to play Savannah Grass, Feel the Love, Take Me Home, Good Luck, Babe! by Chappell Roan, and Rock With You by Michael Jackson.

MITTCO continues to share the joy of the steelpan with audiences and communities around the world.

Musical Instruments of Trinidad and Tobago and the A Team Band extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who came together to pay tribute to Keron. Your unwavering love, support and presence were a true testament to the impact he had on so many lives. As we celebrated his life and remarkable musical contributions, we were deeply moved by the outpouring of respect and admiration shown throughout the evening.

The tribute was made even more special by the outstanding performances from the many artists and steel orchestras who shared their talents in his honour. Through every note and every performance, the love and appreciation for Keron resonated powerfully. Music was the perfect expression of our collective gratitude and remembrance and we could not have honoured him in any more meaningful way. Thank you for helping us create a truly memorable celebration of his life and legacy.

Our Communities Matter!

MITTCO was delighted to support the Chaguanas Secondary School Orchestra by giving their steelpan setup a much-needed face-lift. Our team carefully inspected each instrument, ensuring every steelpan was securely mounted on its stand and making the necessary adjustments to improve stability, safety and performance readiness.

We're proud to play a part in empowering the next generation of pan musicians, one instrument at a time.

It is with profound sadness that we learn of the passing of Keron Harris, beloved drummer of MITTCO' Ensemble.
Keron was more than a talented musician; he was a vibrant spirit whose passion, energy and dedication brought life to every performance and touched the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His rhythm was not only heard through his drums but felt in the camaraderie, joy and inspiration he shared with his fellow band members, friends and the wider community.

On behalf of the MITTCO family, we extend our deepest condolences to Keron’s family, loved ones, friends and all who mourn his loss. During this difficult time, may you find comfort in the cherished memories, the music he created and the lasting impact he made on so many lives.

May his soul rest in peace.
