Bountiful results of the first on-farm trial using a SolarPonix unit - a solar powered, ebb and flow hydroponic system as part of the Atlantic Community Environment (ACE) Programme that is being implemented by a team from SWAC.
The system was conceptualized by Ancel Bhagwandeen, Consulting Engineer, who built the control panel, while the structure was built by MIC Institute of Technology.
The trial resulted in some modifications to the structure and controls.

SWAC recently completed the first year of collaboration with five secondary schools in the South West peninsula to implement the Atlantic Community Environment Programme.

SWAC's team comprised Monica Lessey, Patricia La Borde-Grant, Daryl Knutt and Korrie John.

Special thanks to Mrs. Trudy Solomon-Doodnath, Atlantic's Lead for this programme, and our team of judges, Professor Wayne Ganpat, Mrs. Wynette Thomas-Phillips and Ms. Leeba Bradshaw-Lucillio.

Looking forward to the 2022-23 Academic year

Saran Mahabir was the winner of this year's Community Environment Programme competition titled "Food & Nutrition Security." The programme teaches Point Fortin students about opportunities in farming and agri-entrepreneurship.

SWAC is pleased to be part of this much needed initiative.

SWAC is pleased to be part of this much needed initiative.

Through our Atlantic Community Environment Programme, young people have the opportunity to learn more about agri-business and the skills they'll need to succeed.

The high cost of farm inputs is one of the most pressing constraints that farmers face.
SWAC's Farm Input Supply Project (FISP) addresses this constraint by sourcing fertilizer, equipment and other farm supplies at wholesale prices. The project is managed by volunteers and members pay just a little above the wholesale price.
The impact of this project is illustrated in this video made by Ms. Temara Worrell whose parents are members SWAC. Temara now produces seedlings for her parents farm and for sale. Her parents bought a battery-operated spray can which allows Temara to easily apply fertilizer in solution to crops on her parents farm.
