Laying plastic drop cloths will protect the floor from the process of this coating a cement wall itself. Any items like furniture which will stay in the room during the process should be covered.

Using a 6-inch drywall knife, scrape the wall in a light manner so that the any loose cement or substances that are on the wall will be removed. If walls are newly plastered walls you must sand walls using a rubbing stone. Then prime the walls.

Use a light-body drywall compound. Since the compound serves almost no structural purpose, heavy body compound is not necessary. Plus, lightweight mud is easier to sand smooth.
Mix the drywall compound according to the mix ratio on the product instructions. Often, it's better to short the water slightly to produce a heavier, stickier product. This gives the skim coat greater strength, plus it's cleaner to apply. Mix to a stiff, yogurt-like consistency.

You must begin at the wall's end at the top then go down and across the surface of the wall. Spread the compound into the wall with the use of the skim coating knife. Take the excess compound away with the use of the knife edge in a scraping way. Apply a coat that is thick enough to cover the surface using an even coat. Let the skim-coat dry up for the required hours of the product then apply another coat. Sand the walls using a drywall or orbit sander.

Seal the walls with the required sealant of the product used. Allow sealant to dry for at least six hours, then apply your first coat of paint, wait for dry time then apply final coat of paint
Tip 1.
When mixing drywall compound, determine the amount of water needed according to manufacturer's instructions on the product. Put slightly less water than needed in a mixing container or bucket and add compound to the water. After mixing, add the remaining water if needed. Adding the compound to the water is better for achieving a lump-free mixture than adding all the water to the compound at once.
Tip 2.
Do not exert full force with the knife because you will end up scraping off too much drywall compound, and you risk gouging the wall with the corners of the drywall knife. Deposit excess in the tray.
