The Importance of Doing Pooja, especially as a Family
In Sanatan Dharma, the home is not just a place to live —
it is a Griha Mandir (the temple we reside within)
When a family comes together in pooja, something very powerful happens…
According to Scriptural Insight
The spirit of the Vedas teaches:
“Yatra Naryastu Pujyante, Ramante Tatra Devataah” (Manusmriti 3.56)
Where there is reverence, divinity resides.
When a family sits together in prayer,
that home becomes a place where Devi and Devtas truly dwell. My Agee would always say our home is our Mandir.
Why Family Pooja is So Important
1. It Strengthens Family Bonding
In a world full of distractions, pooja brings everyone together in peace and unity. It is a very worthy project that everyone can work towards.
2. It Teaches Children by Example
Children may not always listen… but they always observe. Hinduism is the only religion that teaches Parivaar Pooja or the worship of the family. Wives do arti to husbands, children to parents, parents to grand parents. This part of pooja teaches a most important lesson that no book or educational institution can instill.
Seeing parents pray instills lifelong values
In children and they grow with that value of faith.
3. It Creates a Spiritual Atmosphere
Mantra chanting, deeya lighting , agarbatti burning — all of these purify the environment and uplift the mind and body creating a powerful, positive, purifying energy.
4. It Builds Discipline and Routine
Even by lighting a deeya regularly or offering Dhar is a powerful routine that builds discipline and dedication in young children.
5. It Invokes Collective Blessings
A family that prays together shares strength, protection, and grace.
(A Deeper Understanding)
I remember growing up with my Agee, the talkari pots were so huge you could literally swim in it. Pooja was always about family, food, prasad, cooking and sharing. As a boy we had to walk the entire village sharing prasad house to house.
When my Agee went to the mandir daily, it was at least 2 hours in prayer for all her family. She always encouraged family worship together.
When one person prays, the benefit is personal…
But when a family prays together, the energy multiplies.
It creates:
✔️ Harmony in the home
✔️ Respect among family members
✔️ Emotional strength during challenges
Let me share this line as a humble Message to all Parents:
Didi, bhaiyaa, Do not wait for “special occasions.” Only to pray and do pooja.
Light a deeya together
Chant one simple mantra
Offer one flower
Do a simple Hawan at least once a month.
That small daily act will shape your child’s character, faith, and future and bring back the lost energy, love and light in your marriage, home and family.
🙏🏽 A Family That Prays Together… Stays Together and Grows Together.
