〔藍風箏〕是中國第五代導演田壯壯構想中有關現代中國史的三部曲電影中的第一部曲，影片透過小孩鐵頭成長為少年的經過，鋪陳了中國共產黨成立中華人民共和國直到文化大革命開始為止的幾段歷史。影片在九一年十二月開拍，中、港合作攝製，九二年三月拍攝完畢，即被中方（北京電影製片廠）禁止導演出國完成後期製作，一直延至九三年三月，有關人士才根據導演的詳細筆記和拍攝劇本，在日本把影片完成。影片在五月的康城影展的「導演雙週」中展出，大放異彩，繼而在同年九月的東京國際電影節中榮獲最佳電影及女主角大獎，又在芝加哥電影節中獲最佳導演銀雨果獎。影片目前已先後在英、法、荷、德、美加、以色列、葡萄牙、日本等各地公開發行上映，惟在中國仍然被禁。
THE BLUE KITE was intended by China’s Fifth Generation Filmmaker Tian Zhuangzhuang as the first part of a trilogy about the modern history of China. It tells the coming-of-age of an 11-year-old boy, Tietou, who is born after the Communist takeover in China. The story ends at the beginning of the Cultural Revolution. Production started in December, 1991 and principal photography was completed three month later. After officials of various organisations including the Beijing Film Studio and the Film Bureau had seen the first cut, Tian was forbidden to finish the film’s post-production in Japan as had been scheduled. The film remained in a state of limbo for almost a year until finally in March, 1993, various people helped complete the film in Tokyo according to the director’s script and detailed production notes.
The film was premiered at the Directors’ Fortnight section of Cannes Film Festival in May, 1993 to wide acclaims. It won the Best Film and Best Actress Awards at Tokyo Film Festival in October and the Silver Hugo Award for Best Direction at Chicago Film Festival. It has been released in the U.K., France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Israel, Portugal, the United States, Canada and Japan. Until now, it is, however, still banned in its own country...
