Bai Win Antiques has been associated with fine antiquities from China and most of Southeast Asia. We are committed to upholding the same high standards of preserving and presenting the finest reflections of ancient Chinese culture with focus on furniture, accessories and sculpture in bronze, stone, and pottery figurines. Whether the antique object was created by a naïve craftsman or an acclaimed artist, we offer unique works of art that were considered important as items of everyday use and ritual. From Thailand and Burma we offer bronze, lacquerware, bronze Buddhist imagery and ethnic textiles. In addition, we have a diverse and exciting selection of items from Indonesia, Korea, the Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam and India. Enquiries are welcomed, and we will be pleased to correspond directly, and give further information where possible, and details if required.

This is an original Edo-period warrior/historical print by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1798–1861) from his rare Selected Paragons of Filial Piety series. The print shows a Kabuki scene: actor Ichikawa Danjûrô VIII as Heiji (平次) with a large straw hat looking down into the water from an outcropping on the bank. From the scene, “祥, Wang Hsiang in Chinese) went to a frozen pond and lay naked on the ice until it melted in order to catch fish for his stepmother.” It is a bold, mid-19th century masterpiece of mitate (comparison) art....

Utagawa Kunisada was among the most prolific and commercially successful print designers of nineteenth-century Japan. His work offers more than portraits of famous performers. Through elaborate costumes, dramatic gestures and carefully constructed compositions, he captured the spectacle of Kabuki.
