WE PUBLISHED THE STORY. IT TRAVELLED BEYOND THE PAGE.

What a moment for Mkuki na Nyota at Mashariki Creative Expo 2026!

We are deeply honoured to be named Publisher of the Year, a recognition of our continued commitment to publishing, nurturing authors, advancing literary rights and taking African stories further.

But this celebration is bigger than one award.
— Outstanding Literary IP for Adaptation Award for Vuta N’kuvute, the acclaimed film adapted from the novel by Shafi Adam Shafi published by Mkuki na Nyota.

Shafi Adam Shafi— Mashariki Literary Rights Legacy Award, celebrating his enduring contribution to Tanzanian and African literature.

— Mashariki Translation and Language Promotion Award, recognising her contribution to bringing powerful literary works into Kiswahili, including Peponi, Dhulma and Things I Tell My Daughter.

These are more than awards.

They are proof of what happens when a powerful story is given the opportunity to travel.

From page → to translation → to screen → to the world.

To our authors, translators, readers, creatives and partners we thank you for being part of the journey. We are Publishing stories, building legacies & taking African voices further.
