🎸 Recently, a good friend brought me a guitar and asked if I could bring it back to life.

The interesting part? It had no real pickups installed — only dummy covers. So the project turned into a complete restoration of both the instrument and its electronics.

For this guitar, I designed a set of custom pickups with non-standard dimensions and specifications. Ceramic magnets and powerful coils helped achieve a tone much closer to the character of a Les Paul while fitting the unique requirements of the instrument.

Overall, it was a fascinating project — and a nostalgic one as well. Many years ago, I played my very first live show on a guitar just like this.

🎸 Нещодавно мій давній друг приніс мені гітару з проханням повернути її до життя.

Найцікавіше те, що справжніх звукознімачів у ній не було — замість них стояли лише муляжі. Тож проєкт перетворився на повне відновлення інструмента та його електроніки.

Для цієї гітари був розроблений комплект нестандартних звукознімачів зі спеціальними розмірами та характеристиками. Керамічні магніти й потужні котушки дозволили наблизити звучання до характеру Les Paul, зберігши при цьому особливості самого інструмента.

Загалом це був дуже цікавий проєкт, який викликав ще й хвилю ностальгії. Колись саме на такій гітарі я вперше вийшов на сцену.

A few months ago, I decided to start documenting my work with bass guitar pickups.
🎥 My first video is now live on YouTube.
This time, I worked on a faulty Jazz Bass pickup that produced no signal at all. In the video, I show the diagnostics, troubleshooting process, and the complete restoration from start to finish.

Кілька місяців тому я вирішив почати документувати свою роботу зі звукознімачем для бас-гітари.

Перше відео вже на YouTube.

Цього разу до мене потрапив несправний Jazz Bass pickup, який взагалі не подавав жодного сигналу. У відео я показав діагностику, пошук несправності та весь процес відновлення від початку до кінця.

Rail pickups appeared as a response to the limitations of traditional single-coils. Instead of pole pieces, they use continuous steel rails, giving even magnetic field, stable output and zero “dead spots” during bends.
They deliver high gain, tight attack, and full frequency response — all while staying hum-free.

🔥 Seymour Duncan Invader — power and identity

The Seymour Duncan Invader — a true icon of 80’s metal tone. With its ceramic magnets and oversized pole pieces, it delivers huge lows, sharp mids, and aggressive sustain. Designed for heavy riffs, it’s all about power and presence.

The bridge model runs around 16–17 kΩ, tight and punchy. The neck version is smoother, about 7.5 kΩ, perfect for expressive leads.

This pickup came in for a full restoration — rewinding coils, resoldering, and paraffin wax potting. After the rebuild, it’s back to life — brutal, clean, and ready to roar again.

Seymour Duncan Invader — легенда металу 80-х. Завдяки керамічним магнітам і великим полюсам він дає масивний бас, щільні середні та агресивну атаку.

Бридж має близько 16–17 кОм, щільний і різкий. Нек — м’якший, 7,5 кОм, чудовий для сольних партій.

Під час ремонту виконано повну перемотку котушок, розпайку та парафінування. Тепер він знову звучить потужно й чисто — як справжній Invader!
