IMPORTANT STORE ANNOUNCEMENT
It is with a great deal of sadness, and every other emotion really, that I must officially announce that I am closing the bookstore.
Making this post is long overdue, and I have written it a hundred different ways in my mind over the last few months, because honestly writing this and putting it out there "officially" is without a doubt one of the hardest things i've ever done in my life. I wanted to find all the right words, and try provide all the information I thought people would want, until I finally just accepted that trying to do it that way was too much. It was too big, and the weight of that task was more than my heart could handle holding.
So...I'm breaking it down, and the information and answers to questions I know people will have will eventually come. Because honestly, I don't even have all the answers myself at this point. For now, I'm going to do a quick rundown of the answers I do have, and the information I feel is most important for people to know right now, and the rest will come in time.
1. I do not have a set "end date" at this time. Right now the plan is to be closed by end of summer/beginning of fall.
2. The store is closing in it's physical location, but I am planning on doing other things that will essentially keep the store going in some ways. I have no set plans for that at this time, it is a work in progress. However, because that is my plan, I am not looking to "sell" the store to a different owner, take on a partner, etc. I am also not interested in selling off the entire inventory to someone else. In regards to the store building, I do not own the building, and the building will not be going up for sale. As many of you know, there is another business in the basement of the building, and it will be staying there. The owner of the building has no immediate plans of what will be done with the space the bookstore is currently occupying, but is open to conversation if someone has an idea for it. I can pass her information along if someone would like to speak with her about usage of the space.
3. I will still be accepting books for store credit for another few weeks, but I am going to be MUCH more "picky" about what I take, and will probably not be giving as much credit as I used to. I'll provide more info on all of that soon.
4. Effective immediately, we will be closed on Tuesdays. I will be making a separate post regarding the new hours later today.
5. There are multiple reasons for *why* the store is closing. The one thing I would like to say on this right now, is that the bookstore is NOT closing because "no one is reading anymore, bookstores are a dying breed, everything is electronic" and all the other things along those lines. Bookstores have made a comeback all across the country. Digital book sales have been declining for years. People are absolutely still buying books in print. NONE of those things are why the store is closing.
I know there are many questions that were not answered or even addressed at all here, those answers will come in time. And, I know many of you will be saddened by this news and will wish to express your feelings about it, but I hope you will understand that I will be turning off commenting for this post. There will be other posts to come where I will absolutely invite people to share their feelings and questions, but honestly friends, I can't handle all that today after posting this. I do deeply apologize for that, and I hope you all understand. For now, this particular post is solely for the purpose of sharing this information.
Thank you. You all have no idea how much you all mean to me.
