As we detailed in yesterday's newsletter, we have a run of five author events in seven days that starts at 11 am. Saturday Morning Story Time is back!!! We'll be celebrating "Set Sail for School" by local author Daryl-Lynne Gottier, which is fitting because today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day!

- Tuesday at 7 pm: Johanna Franzel

A big thank you to local author Natasha Singer for stopping by to sign copies of her recently released book, "Coding Kids: Big Tech's Battle to Remake Public Schools," this afternoon!

Natasha has covered the tech industry's influence over public schools for The New York Times for more than a decade, work that has won a George Polk Award and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist. The book was featured in The New Yorker this week, and Publishers Weekly said of the book: "This pressing investigation raises urgent questions about not only corporate meddling in schools but the intended purpose of education." This is an urgent book written by an expert in their field, so we're thrilled to have it on our shelves. And now our copies are autographed, to boot!

What a week it was at our annual NEIBA (New England Independent Booksellers Association) Fall Conference! We got to catch up with our friends - both booksellers and authors - meet a whole bunch of new friends, learn a whole bunch, and of course, pick up some books that we're jazzed to read! It was also the first time attending the conference for our managers Leiah and Anna, who were overwhelmed in the best possible way.

It was extra special to see our BFF Rajani LaRocca win the Presidents Award, given annually by the NEIBA board president (this year that's our friend Liz Whitelam from Whitelam Books in Reading) to an accomplished author who deserves special recognition, and that's absolutely Rajani!!!

In this week's newsletter, we unveiled the book lists for our 2027 Mock Awards program! Led by our outstanding bulk and school sales manager Lorie, the 20 books on our Mock Caldecott and Newbery lists are the books from which we think this year's Caldecott and Newbery Medal-winning books will come.

And as a special treat for educators, three of these creators - Sara Pennypacker, Vashti Harrison, and Traci N. Todd - will be joining us for Teacher Appreciation Night on Monday, Sept. 28th!!! So educators, be sure to register for that event today!!
