My top tips for growing Monsteras on a wood plank instead of a moss pole 👇

(Comment “LINK” if you want deets on the trellis in the video and my discount code 🙂)

🌿Start it Early- I waited way too long for the Monstera Aurea in this video. Ideally, I like to start them on a support by leaf 2 or 3 to get the maximum benefit of it starting to climb. If you cant start early, the next tip is extra important.

🪴Secure Contact- The plant KNOWS when it is secure and responds with more mature leaves and more aerial roots to attach (as long as all other growing conditions are also met). This is just from my own observation of my own plants. The back of the stem needs to be in contact with the support and securely attached at first. Like I said in the video, once it starts putting out more aerial roots and growing up the support, I don’t even tie it on. It attaches all by itself (and I do not water/mist those roots). I occasionally use the ties to guide the new growth to stay in the center of the trellis if it’s veering off.

🌱Guide Roots to the Pot- I do my best to guide the large chunky aerial roots down to the pot so they can root in. There will be one large chunky root with each leaf and this is the one that will make it to the pot. The smaller roots that grow in between leaves on mature plants are really more for helping it climb and attach to things but the chunky ones are on a quest for more water and nutrients and they will not be stopped.

💚Since roots are being guided into the pot as opposed to a moss pole, you may need to size up the pot more often to accommodate all the roots in the pot.

I potted up this Monstera Jungle Mint in December 2025 and here it is 6 months later in June! I am very happy with its growth and I think it’s already time for a repot 🫠🪴

This is the Zella Grande Trellis by (there is a Regular size but it is much smaller). This trellis is extendable to grow with your plant.

Treleaf is one of my favorite planty small businesses to support. They are woman-owned, and made in the USA 🇺🇸. Their trellises are reusable, and designed to last for years (they even have a protective coating for below the soil line). I currently have 8 Monsteras growing on Zella trellises. 💚

This Monstera Jungle Mint has been climbing this Zella trellis for about a year and a half… and honestly? This is why I don’t use moss poles. They are not necessary to grow big Monsteras 🤷🏼‍♀️ more below ⤵️

The aerial roots can attach on their own when the plant begins to mature without watering or misting the trellis. Just make sure the back of the stem is making good contact when you first install the trellis (new roots can’t attach to what they can’t touch).
🌱Pro tip: Install the trellis when the plant is young so it grows flush with the trellis and keep the light source in front of the plant if you want it to grow nice and tidy like mine.

This is the Zella trellis by Treleaf and it is my favorite way to support my Monsteras. 💚

🪴 Comment “LINK” and I’ll send it to your inbox!

It has a water resistant coating on the bottom to prevent rot so you can reuse it over and over again! And the trellis is made from cedar so it smells amazing.

You can also attach two side by side for more support with the included angular clips!

Did you know that Monstera aerial roots can attach to the trellis all by themselves? Yup!

Pro tip: Make sure it’s securely tied to the trellis when you first install it and the plant can take it from there as it grows new aerial roots with each leaf! Also make sure your light source is directly in front of the plant so it doesn’t veer off to the side 😉.

Transforming your climbing plants from floor crawlers to leafy showstoppers is way easier than you think—and your plants will literally love you for it! 🌿✨
Here is why adding a trellis to your plant care routine is a total game-changer:
🪴 Sturdier, Upright Growth: Supports heavy stems and vines, keeping your plants upright and preventing accidental stem breakage.
☀️ Maximum Light Exposure: Spreading out leaves on a frame ensures better airflow and lets every single leaf catch maximum light.
🍃 Bigger Leaves & Faster Growth: Climbing plants like Monstera, Pothos, and Philodendron naturally want to climb! Giving them support triggers them to produce larger, healthier foliage.
✨ Instant Decor Upgrade: Turns a wild, leggy plant into a sculpted, functional piece of living art.

Ready to give your green friends the support they deserve? Check out for beautiful, functional plant trellises that elevate both your plants and your home aesthetic!

A trellis doesn’t have to disappear behind the plant. 🌿

Meet Flora - one of the original designs from our Classic Collection.

The swirling shape isn’t just there to look pretty. It gives your plant lots of little places to grab onto as it grows, so stems can weave in, around, and through the trellis instead of being held against one straight stake.

And that’s what we love about Flora: as the plant grows, the trellis starts to become part of the plant rather than something you’re trying to hide.

It’s easy to assemble, easy to add to your pot, and gives climbing growth somewhere to go.

Would you let your plant grow wild through Flora, or would you guide each stem? 👀
