Now that's a seriously rare crystal. Bikitaite. Only found in 2 places in the world. Zimbabwe, where the type locality is (discovered in 1957) and the Foote Lithium Mine, King's Mountain, Cleveland Co., NC. The latter is where the best have been found. But closed since the early 1980s. Now flooded and off limits.

The Foote Mine was famous for a lot of strange species and home to over 150 of them. Type locality for 16.

Bikitaite is a hydrous lithium aluminium silicate with the formula: LiAlSi2O6 * H2O. I picked up a few flats of old dealer stock in the spring and there were 3 specimens of this rare species. This one is about 2.5 cm wide. Probably from the late '60s to mid '70s. I'll add photos of the other two later. But this one will be for sale at the Paragenesis Minerals booth at the Lakewood Antique Market. Too delicate to ship.

Next 4 images are a larger specimen at about 2 inches wide. Not as aesthetic. But probably one of the largest pieces from there and to a rare species collector... probably around $250+. Some Quartz in it as well.

Lakewood update...

I picked more mineral specimens this afternoon. Just in time for the upcoming show. So, in addition to Meteorites, Paragenesis Minerals will have:

Beautiful crystalline Smithsonite from the Tsumeb Mine in Namibia.

Ojuela Mine Hemimorphite and porcelain Dolomite crystals. Durango, Mexico.

Very unusual botryoidal Fluorite from the Santa Eulalia Mining District in Chihuahua, Mexico. Good cabinet size specimens.

Some fascinating pieces of Willemite on Limonite - also from Santa Eulalia in Chihuahua. These should fluoresce.

Several nice "Volcanic Bomb" Olivine & Peridot crystal clusters on Basalt. Classic New Mexico pieces!

Fluorite pieces from the White Rock Quarry in NW Ohio. Fabulous UV reaction!

A couple amazing Dog-tooth Calcite pieces with 2 growth phases. Chihuahua again. And LOTS of sparkle!

And a few others. Definitely be one of the first to cherry-pick some of the most choice pieces in the mix.

New acquisitions of old stock pieces for Paragenesis Minerals. Several exceptional pieces of iron-bearing Dolomite from the Vekol Mine in Penal Co., AZ. This was the remnants of a late 19th Century silver mine. This group probably collected from there in the 1970s. Not easy to find. Rich, red-brown and sharply defined crystals. I've got about 6-7 specimens available.

Also a few rare and unusual Scorodite pieces from the Ojuela Mine in Durango, Mexico. Scorodite is one of the two "holy grail" minerals found in this classic Mexican location. The other one is the very desirable mineral, Legrandite. I do have a couple of these as well.

These boxes also had just a single magnificent specimen of the fabulous mineral, Brochantite from the world class location of the Dem Republic of the Congo. But this is definitely an older piece since the tag says, Zaire.

These should be prepped and ready for the upcoming December Holiday flea market at Lakewood. Many other fabulous items for the crystal collector on your gift list! Dec 5-6-7. Cu***ng, GA. Link in comments.

Along with a week of having my van in the shop and all that expense... I had originally planned on being set up as Paragenesis Minerals at the Birmingham Gem and Mineral show. Alas due to downsizing, I got bumped. So any of my loyal Birmingham buyers... I'm most certainly going to miss seeing you this weekend. Definitely tell organizers that you want to see me back next year.

I'm trying to get into a couple other shows this fall. Or if you are in North Georgia, come out and see me at the Lakewood 400 Antiques Market the first weekend of every month. Next show is next weekend. Sept 5-6-7. Find me in Hall B -- B-56 & 57.
